I finally got to compare some numbers on our dyno. My bike made 8.5 hp more than an '04 XB12 with the Buell race aircleaner, ECM and Drummer exhaust. My S1 has stock new style heads, Andrews N9 cams and 10.5:1 pistons. My rear head gasket leaks slightly (it seals itself [mostly] when the engine is hot), my exhaust gaskets are re-used, and my primary chain, final drive chain and sprockets are all roasted. I'm sure it may be costing me some power. Anyway, the XB made 87.5hp and 78ft-lbs, my bike made 96hp and 82ft-lbs. 'till next time! |

you must be pretty excited! is it a big difference with the added hp? when does the power kick in with those cams? |

It has a bit more torque off the bottom with the high comp pistons, then it doesn't really get on the cam 'till after 4000 rpm. Below that it feels like the stock lightning cams. It pulls a bit harder on top and you'll you're into the limiter quicker. I'm sure it'd be a lot funner with some headwork...but I couldn't afford it. I've seen dyno charts showing 115HP with headwork and these cams. It pops it up a little in second gear (no clutching), and in first gear it wheelies it's @ss off. The bike started off making 75hp on our shop dyno, so 21 additional hp ain't a bad start. On the MMI dyno it was making 82hp stock with no changes...so our numbers may be a bit conservative. I let it rev out to 7300rpm and it started picking power back up fairly sharply...but I was afraid to see what more it could do. I feared it may have been losing valve control.
