Tramp, Yeah, you are probably right about the body fat percentage. My trainer at the gym used the calipers to come up with that number. I wasn't sure how accurate that was anyway! |

hey- at 6'3, i'm guessing both sets o' pythons in that shot are 18". that's the problem with being a tall bodybuilder. pictures (as opposed to in real life) do you no justice. my very best friend was 6'71/2, amazing training and physique, in person he was awe-striking, in phots, he just looked like an athletic guy with good traps. meanhwile, a 5'4 guy with 12" biceps might look like the "incredible hulk" in a photo. kicka*s delts and traps, incidentally, Dtx. dang. if you don't already, you should box. |

Tramp - regarding the pine box derbies, it wasn't gravity affording the advantage to those little cars with the extra weight. It was inertia. Remember that Italian cat who dropped the big rock and the little rock offa da leaning tower of Pisa? Back to your regularly scheduled programming. |

JLB_ excellent (as always) point. dang! you know who the band 'orange krush' was? Kandie- I boxed off and on since grade school, got into it heavily at times. our stepdad kept me and my big brother in gloves much of the time. smart man. we needed it. after our stepfather got killed, my mom got smart and put me and my big brother into karate and tried to steer us away from western-style pugilism. smart lady. we needed it. fought full-contact karate in my teens and 20s and, aside from brawling and barfighting, stopped due to being a wuss about all the KOs i'd sustained (brain damage concerns...ooops), plus lifting took over my interests. got outta lifting in my mid 30s, for the most part. experience has evidenced that even a mediocre boxer will demolish the average blackbelt in most streetfights. spending any amount of time with m/c s entails training with and without gloves. people who have to be held accountable, with their hands, for everything they do and say, tend to be very easy to get along with and build strong bonds with. did i run-on enough? yeeeesh. |

Is there a secret to getting rid of the stink in your gloves from sweating other than just buying a new pair? I don't think they can go in the washer but I'm about to try it. |

Orange Krush sounds familiar, but I can say it's not coming to me right now. On the fighting note, I will say that regardless what style of fighting you choose, when faced with a real situation the greatest determinants of success is %50 mindset and %50 stamina. Cochise it's all good. |

Kandie - If they are leather you can probably dry clean them. |

Kandie- put on a set of exam gloves, pour liquid detergent into your to-be-washed gloves, and then put some on the outside, put them on over your exam gloves, and rub them together like you're washing your hands. let them sit for an hour or so, then put the exam glove sback on (to protect your skin from the detergent), and hold the gloves under hot running water for a good 2 or 3 minutes, until the water coming out the top of them runs clear. rinse the outsides, too, and let 'em dry. the cotton will likely wanna shrink, so put them on clean hands every half-hour so and strectch them while they're drying. In snowboarding and skiing this is a constant issue. bets advice for the future, never, ever, put your gloves on after eating, esp. finger-food. keep them on when you turn doorknobs, etc., and keep you hands clean as you can. The best way to contract bronchitis, etc., is by putting dirty hands in and out of gloves, and then not washing your hands before you eat again. gross. |

I wash my hands before I even leave the gym they smell so bad. I'll try it. If it doesn't work I can just buy a new pair. Thanks. |

gloves... Yesterday my drunk dad put the horse trailer on a wood block but forgot to put a wheel chock.. So the trailer rolled back and off of the wood block. So I had to deadlift the tongue of the trailer so that he could put the wood block back under the tounge. Sounds cool don't it. But it was stupid. I left the horse in the trailer. Could have saved a few pounds bike taking the horse out. Stupid meat head. LOL BTW lifting on the trailer tounge with the leverage advantage -- was only about 5-700lbs. I know this becuase the day before it was 6 plates at the gym that I lifted. |

Tramp, Speaking of memory lane... I have 2 issues of Joe Weiders original Muscle and Fitness magazines from 1950 time period. They were my grandfathers, as he was in to the muscle craze for a while in the 50's. Back in 1985 at 5'6" my arms were 19" now they are 16-17" Good luck to everyone and their goals for the year. I just got back from the gym so its another start for me. Rode the Buell there too. Its almost a year since I have routinely worked out. |

Kandie, I'd recommend two different things and they'll save you a bit of money: 1. Rev Dog Glove Deodorizer (just shove it in the gloves when you're done,,,kind of like shoe dogs.) 2. No B.O. Equipment Deodorizer (it's a liquid spray dealio that actually works.) I have no clue where you can find them except in Lincoln County NC. G2 (Message edited by Bigdaddy on January 01, 2006) |

Tramp, I have a tremendous respect for boxers after trying it once. If they have even one day more experience than you, they can make you look pretty stupid. On being tall...yeah its tough to put weight on with my height. A lot of people called me skinney and lankey until they see me at the gym! Clothes are a big disguise... |

Blake, You're so right about the survival situation thing. I've always been one of those "chunkier" Marines and was always razzed about it. I never thought it would be an advantage until a few months in Bridgeport northern Ca at mountain survival school. The skinny guys got loopy right away and had fatigue problems. I was good for a few weeks. I did get loopy at the end though. BTW, I went from 225 to 198 in two weeks during the final exercise... I think I like my weight now LOL! JLB Re: your comment "On the fighting note, I will say that regardless what style of fighting you choose, when faced with a real situation the greatest determinants of success is %50 mindset and %50 stamina." This is so true. I've seen huge vs. small, untrained vs. blackbelt in (pick your art) fight, and heart wins a lot of the time... I also believe that if you've got the heart (warrior spirit) training only makes you more lethal. Also, Kandie congrats on your hard work. It takes dedication to build/maintain a body. Boxing doesn't hurt either... I try and my is it an arse kicker! I only last a few minutes on the bag before I'm huffing. |

Panic - I believe he concluded that gravity is a constant. We could always factor in air resistance and such...but I don't think he had it in him at the time. EDIT - I did some research and found that the spheres that Galileo dropped from the tower of Pisa were both the same size, but differing in mass. He was smarter than I thought. I entered the Corps weighing a wirey 130lbs at 5'7". Four years later I left weighing 178lbs...gaining pure muscle mass. I ate all I could, ran a few times a week and worked out 5 days a week (yes, I had no life). Everyone thought I was doing 'roids. |

When I left Coca-Cola and working 15hrs a day lifting 2-Wheelers full of pop, working through lunches, I weighed a bulky 135#. When I left and went to work with the city, within one month, I weighed 170#. That's what I call bulking up. |

I played football for a small Div II college, entered as a fresh weighing 185 at 6'1", after one year, under the training programs I was 215, all muscle. free food and beer will do that...Everyone automatically thinks roids, which some folks are on, but you can't underestimate the power of science, which many coaches, trainers, and folks on this board understand very well, and have thier training down to... |

I teach karate and cardio aerobics? is that close? My sparring equipment that i use w/ my blackbelts (being 4th degree master instructor has its own perks, lower ranks to pick on)... they are cotten lined, and to get rid of the smell I usually do the detergent thing that Tramp mentioned.. but the outsides are leather, so they shrink BIG TIME! just watch them and stretch them out. I did a tournament during the holiday break of only Blackbelts, 35 compeditors, 34 matches... everyone fights everyone else.. 5 point matches (kind of like Karate Kid movie w/ pads not full contact), They let us have 10 minutes break in between each fight w/ a 1.5 hour break in the middle for lunch. I slept for over 12 hours the next day.. oh yeah i got 6th... and TONS OF BRUISED ribs.. one of the fights i fought a buddy of mine that is in International TaeKwon-Do (which is my base style) we were in the air 1/2 the time.. Fun FUN FUN!!! although i will be re-coopin my knee for 2 weeks now.. lol don't ask what the point was of that , but i was proud of that fact... 15 years of training, and not many people around to share my spoils w/ |

for leather gloves, wash 'em as I described. after your're finished, and you've gently squeezed the excess out, put 'em on and pour mink oil in the palms, and run 'em together. leather, much like our own skin, absorbs emmolients afr better when it's pores are expanded by water, and then, as the water evaporates, the oil displaces it. typically, in doing this, your glove swill be moister than before, and if you put them on every half-hour while they dry (room temp, don't "help" them) for a few minutes, they'll fit better than ever. I don't wash them with detregent to deodorize them, I do it to sanitize them. that they are doedorized by this sanitation is a happy accident. not to be confused with a happy ending, moist gloves or not.... |
