Found this on another site...thought it was interesting...Dont get all over me if it's not accurate...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Read the question before scrolling down to the answer .

Question:

It is time to elect a new world leader, and you have the deciding tie-breaker vote.

Here are the facts about the three leading candidates:

Candidate A - Associates with crooked politicians and consults with astrologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

Candidate B - He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

Candidate C - He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his girlfriend who later became his wife.

Which of these candidates would be your choice?

Decide first, no peeking, then scroll down for the answer.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Candidate B is Winston Churchill.

Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.

Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before judging someone. Remember, Amateurs built the Ark, Professionals built the Titanic.

I picked Churchill (though I thought it was Hunter Thompson or Steve Earle)

Pretty sure those descriptions aren't what I'd call "honest", meaning they don't present complete or overall characterizations of any of the men. But I won't get all over you for it. : ) That's the typical propaganda you'll see propagated by the "if it feels good, do it" crowd. Eisenhower had a mistress in England. We all know the character flaws of JFK and President Clinton. Heck, our current President is an admitted drunk. I'd say a person is best defined by their deeds and accomplishment, not by their vices.

Hitler wrote Mein Kampf while imprisoned for treason; compare that to the early writings and deeds of young Roosevelt and Churchill. Therein you'll find the truer definition of each of those men.

LOL! Good one!

My serious answer that I neglected to include above is that I didn't have enough information to make any choice.

I picked A.

We had a mayor here in RI that is serving time for bribes and what not. However he did a lot for the capitol city (rebuilt the whole downtown area). I tend to agree with what Blake said (or the entire point of the post), you can't make a good choice until you have the entire picture.

Buellin RI - I started to frequent Providence in the early to mid-nineties. I had a good friend going to college there, and as such was a good weekend road trip destination for some libations and debauchery. Frankly, downtown Providence was a bit of a cesspool.

Fast forward some 10 years later. I hadn't been there in over 5 years at least. My wife wanted to see a concert at PPAC so she got tickets invited a friend, and I invited a bud, and we decided that while the girls were in the concert we'd find an old haunt and watch the Yanks kick some in the Series. When we got to Providence I could barely recognize the city. It looked as if they had infused about 10 billion dollars into it. Not bad for the (ALLEGED) bribe taking, small time wannabe crookster who ran the joint.

I picked A...becuase...

Candidate A - Associates with crooked politicians and consults with astrologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

I pciked it, becuase it sounds liek every other politician, and we all know they are ALL crooked, so..why change from teh norm, as I dont think our way of life woudl know how to deal with the other choices...lol...guess there is a good reason I though that...

But, someones vices...and someones virtues, kinda hard to judge a person based on even those, without knowing them...as I have some my self, as do we all..and i dont wanna be judged, by what OTHERS call virtues..

Vices(according to society)..for me...women, partying, NO REGARD to traffic laws, and few others for that matter..partying, women(the more teh better..lol), quick to tell you what I think..and quick to deal out a swift kick in the arse, or fist to the face, loud etc...

Virtues(according to society)...honest, active duty(thoough, that is a vice to alot of people), have never cheated on a woman, have never even raised my voice to a woman, and I do my best to take care of family and friends...

BUT, thats what society veiws as my vices and virtues, I like to look at it the other way though.. as my FUN, is what keeps me sane, and my virtues, are what create teh instablity, adn insanity in my life.....go figure..

There is nothign there though, that I FEEL, gives anyone cause to know me well enough to judge me..as you woudl really have to know me to know how all that fits together...

But, cool post none the less

Chase

EDIT:Wow, been really opinionated lately huh? at least its not my normal unconstructive waste of bandwidth...lol}

Having grown up in RI, Buddy was not the only crooked pol. And yes he was in office when down town Providence changed from what it was to what it is now. Buddy did not single handedly change Providence. There were many honest people who made great contributions as well. That being said, RI was a fun place to grow up in.

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. --Ronald Reagan
