I wonder if you'll have to lean them out to pass then rejet them back to run right afterwards. |

Is this a NEW thing...I mean in AZ??? Are ALL bikes there (or everywhere for that matter) being smogged??? |

Rex did you have the M2 when new? if so you remember how it ran before changing the slow jet? just close down the slow speed mixture screw about half a turn. it will lean out the low speed, bike will fart and pop when cold, surge a bit at low speed, running lean enough to lower hydrocarbon output. |

S3T, Rex just recently moved from California to Arizona and is probably going through the title transfer process. |

REX change your oil, change your plugs, do the slow speed mixture screw thing, raise your idle speed, make sure bike is up to operating temp and air cleaner is clean. Then try a different emission station. |

wow, that is scary, I think I will probably be smogged in Feb. when my registration comes do. Race kitted with the Buell race exhaust. Maybe a good fast run up the 60 to Wickenburg and back before I go to the smog station. Just don't want to get caught at Bell and Grand with the geezers (the Zonans will know what I am talking about). |

Send me some of those extra hydrocarbons would ya? They are getting to be expensive. I bet if you lean 'em up for the test you'll pass fine. Interesting information. |

In Phoenix, I had to smog test all 5 of my Buells. One of my S2's, and the S1 failed, not by much, just needed to adjust the carb a tad. No big deal. It is good to replace the sparkplugs with new ones that are gapped properly, use premium gas and insure the bike is fully warmed up BEFORE going to the emissions test. |

yea, the S2 barely failed... a little jetting work, new plugs, etc. and it should make it....the m2 was way out of line.......we will have to see on that one. With all of the junker cars around here, good clean bikes don't make it.....REX |

Rex On my hopped up Sporty I finally had to change the low jet to one step smaller, run it down to reserve and add a small bottle of rubbing alcohol after I did all the above stuff. Hit a gas station on the way home for a fill up then rejetted back to the correct low jet. It passed so then I changed it's registration so no more smog tests for that bike. Good Luck and keep us posted. |

Rex this is by far a fairly expensive solution to the problem. Vehicle owners who reside outside the vehicle emissions control areas of metro Phoenix (Area A) and Tucson (Area B), and whose vehicle has been identified as "emissions test required" may be granted an exemption from testing (Code 52 Exemption) as long as the vehicle is not used to commute to the owner's principle place of employment or to school within the control area. So the solution I used was buy a second home not in Phoenix or Tucson area and register the bike there. I can still drive in Phoenix and Tucson since I no longer go to school and do not use that bike to commute to work (I walk to work---Home Office). |
