I would like to thank everyone for all their help and support. Especially in regards to my track ambitions. (In particular Slaughter's invitations) I feel guilty that I have seemed so flaky when it comes to actually getting out to the track and so fourth. I really do appreciate all of the advise and offers to help me out. I just don't want to seem disrespectful, and leave a bad impression. I have realized that I can't commit to some of the things that I would like to do. So I must prioritize and focus primarily on my education. Sorry and thank you. |

Feeling guilty is sucky! Don't feel guilty! Priorities are good. Absolutely no need nor justification for you to feel the least bit troubled. We all like to offer our words of wisdom. Steve could probably sit down in an afternoon and write a bestselling book about preparing for motorcycle road racing. I know for a fact that he could dictate one. Keep hold of the dream. We'll be here, hopefully, when your priorities allow for some track fun. |

Hey Peter - just come out and hang out at the track! We always serve free lunches on race day (burgers in the warmer months, chili or hot soup in the colder months) in the HD/Buell of Glendale pit. Now that Buell just confirmed that we're getting factory contingency money again in 06, we may be getting a tad more PR... depending on my writing skills (I do Glendale's race reports monthly) Come up, hang out and start scoping out what you might wanna do in a few years when you get back into it! I'm in a similar spot wanting to pay off the VISA now that I've paid off all my medical debts from Feb's crash. I've got about another half year to pay down a HUGE bunch of bucks that I coughed up fixing the bikes (the SV included) after 6 different crashes, a F-USA race in Vegas, and pretending we could make a 6-hour in Fontana (tons of expenses there) Sometimes you have to do what in your heart you know is right. NOTE: I didn't say you had to LIKE it - but you just gotta do it. Come on out and hang out anyways. $10 gets you in the gate and you'd be amazed at what you could learn just by being there and asking questions. Also getting familiar with the environment makes it easier on your mind when you eventually do come out to play. Even just a first track day can be intimidating the first time out until you have a couple sessions and learn the track. Besides, in club racing, you're not likely to find a friendlier, more helpful bunch of folks because there's NO B.S. - unlike sportbike boards where it's mostly talk (I mean OTHER sportbike boards). On the track, you're gonna be facing each other for real so talking smack doesn't mean anything to anybody - and that fact really changes the way people deal with each other. Check out the WSMC "unofficial" BBS at http://www.ducatitech.com/bbs - I can't stress enough how often people ask questions as newbies and are treated totally respectfully. If you hit track days in the area, I can make many good recommendations - especially if you think you might want to really improve your track skills - with an eye to possibly racing at some future date} (Message edited by slaughter on December 22, 2005) |
