May your Crappie never be crappy, your perch poached perfectly, and your pickerel pleasantly plump ...variation of old Irish toast. |

JLB: Do you know where "White Pond" is? according to my NYSDEC Fishing regs guide, there's a "White Pond" in your county which has Walleye, and Ice Fishing is allowed thereon. |

Tramp -White Pond is about spitting distance from one of the roads we took on the Headless horseman run. Another very local lake here (5 min from my place) also sports a healthy walleye population. If you want to fish it I have access to that lake. Just let me know and we'll make a day of it. If I remember correctly the Walleye were introduced years ago in an attempt to control the alewife population. |

Crappie is good steamed (or sauteed in butter) with garlic and italian parsley. I used to cook my bluegills like that. Mmmmmmmm |

Tramp - the ice is almost nonexistant right now (it's a fairly big lake), but another 2 weeks of these temps we should have no problems. I've never ice fished (is that the proper verb usage?) so it'll be a first for both of us. As soon as I get the high sign from the local rednecks/ice-mavens I'll let you know. |

I'm allergic to fish. You can give my share to Dana. Next time I'm out to the Boiler Room, he can give me some of those 2" slices of pizza, like he had at the 20th. They were weird, but pretty tasty! |

Dana, You don't know how lucky you are. I crave a good old Wisconsin fish fry all the time. Sure there is plenty of seafood but unfortunately I haven't found anything that can compare here on the coast of NC. The good news, however, is that when I go home to East Troy for Christmas I will be able to take in 2 (count 'em - 1, 2) good ol', genuine, all you can devour, beer-battered cod, Milwaukee Friday night fish fry's - washed down with plenty of beer, of course. I'm counting the days! 9 until the 1st one and 16 until the 2nd. YUM! 1313 |

1313's post reminds me of my last eastern euro tour. i didn't wanna leave, I was spending every night, in the weeks before i headed out, in the little tavern in the hamlet, here, downing over a dozen becks and two orders of fish & chips every night after icefishing. every night. was 'seeing' the bartender, which helped. I had to grow a big beard. oh darn. anyway- I missed that fish & chips when i was overseas, man |

I've never ice fished (is that the proper verb usage?) I think it may be ice FASH. (ex.)I have never ice FASH, but I would like to. Another good way to fix crappie, (pronounced croppie) is rub in Mustard, place in corn meal with Cajun spices. Darn good. A great way to cook carp is: Take a pine board, place Carp on board, pour and marinate fish with Italian Dressing, cajun spices, butter, onion, and Black Olives. Let it all sit in the open air for 6 hours and let everything soak in. Use Pecan wood to smoke it in for about 5 hours. let cool, throw away the Carp and eat the Pine board. |

I say Brankin that we get Tramp and everyone to go out for a good old Wisconsin Fish Fry during the Homecoming. What ya say?? MOST DEFINITELY! Every year but this past year (due to my friend Frank visiting from Germany and the fact we missed Thursday night's dinner) I would always leave the Friday night BRAG dinner and go out to one of my favorite fish fry spots. In the feedback form that I filled out for Bringing it Home (2004 Homecoming essentially) I suggested that the Friday night BRAG dinner should be a fish fry. This past year there was fish on the menu, but it was that healthty - and boring baked fish. Close, but not quite... Tramp, If you make it to Homecoming this year (or hell, any year for that matter) the 3 of us will definitely take in a fish fry! 1313 |
