Holiday stocking stuffer idea! As a kid in the '70s I played with a similar "linear belt drive" Evel Knievel moto-toy. Wasn't the technology called "SST"? |

man, I LOVED the SSTs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember that a cereal manuafacturer put mini-SSTs in boxes, too. SSTs were banned in our elementary school within about a month. Gimma an SST, an action Jackson and an Evel Knievel action figure, the GI Joe Adventure team helicopter, and a couple tree sets of gnip-gnops and a duncan butterfly, and I'm good to go. ummm....in the picture on the left-top corner of the container....is that someone's derriere that the pull strap is coming out of? ...cause I'm ascaired.... |

As I recall, the SST's had a "rip cord" that you fed through the flywheel mechanism and then pulled, much like how these frogs appear to operate. (Or was it "SSP"? The supersonic jets are SST: Supersonic Transport. SSP=Supersonic Power?) The Evel Kneivel toy ... I remember that one, too. Did it have kind of a "launch pad" thing though -- where you put little Evel in place, then turned a crank, and when you stopped he would take off? I saw an ad on TV the other day (I think it was on TV) for a toy that looks like an SST/P, but it's just a wheel, no body. they show it jumping over cars and stuff. Looks fun! |
