Going to IMS tomorrow, Dave Mann Mem. "chopper Fest" Sunday. Mid 60's - low 70's during day & clear. It's why I moved here, so many years ago. AL |

We got a foot of snow up here yesterday, as well. The roads here, however, are covered with slushy snow and road salt. I don't want my first ride on my new Uly to be one that gets it covered with salt.(That'll come later) The bags aren't in yet, so I'll let it wait in a warm covered dealership for another week, then pick it up next Saturday when there should be less salt on the roads. The last time I fell down was on a snow covered street, coming home from work. I really hate crashing, so I can wait a week more. Who knows, maybe the bags and/or low seat will come in this week. |

Man - I forgot how hard core you east coast and winter weather riders are! I guess I wimped out by moving to So Cal. I don't think I would ever go "Hey - the snow plow just cleared a dry spot--let's ride!" Hypothermia! Bah! that's for sissies! You go, guys! AL |

Central California will be relatively cool (highs in the 50s) but it will be dry and sunny. Apart from having summer gloves and cold hands, it rocks. Im riding this weekend and the good news is that I have surpassed the 500 mile break in, so no more holding up traffic..... |

Had a good ride and it was cool. Never did get to 50 degrees maybe 40 and that was it. We pretty much had the road to ourselves.

al, Trust me, no hubris attached to my winter riding, only necessity. In fact, I borrowed Z-Girl's Subaru to go ice-fishing today, as opposed to the Buell. Mistake- nowhere to park, as the shoulders all have deep slowdrifts. 'least with the Buell I coulda kicked out a spot quickly, for parking. I hit a little pond out in the woods instead, because there was a decent pulloff for the trail in. no fish, though (I was jigging- bait shop doesn't have minnows yet, as the "ice isn't thick enough". still, beautiful to spend a couple sunnyhours out on the ice of a pond in the woods, surrounded by fresh snow, sitting on a spackle bucket, watching the hawks and woodpeckers and stuff.... fish or no fish. tomorrow I'll buell it up to the good lake and bring home some big Pickerel |

It's 45 degrees here in New Mexico, just got back from a little 100 mile putt. Electrics work nice! Gotta get them if you ride in the cold!

never used electric heating apparel. I just wear a carhartt arctic coat with plenty of good layers underneath, and a thick sleeveless leather jacket and ski pants. EZ- be careful around devil's slide, go the extra distance to halfmoon bay and then up 92 and back home on skyline. nothing like a december sunset on skyline... unless you can go the extra 11 miles to san gregorio and take 84... or jesss a couple miles farther to pescadero point, and inland for a quick one at duarte's, and up over the hill past 'pesky' ranch and the state camp... |

Hammertime! Sometimes my badweb PMs go automatically into my 'bulk' folder- I'll check it shortly. I'll be up for plenty of riding, fewer bikes and cars on the goood roads this time of year, although perkins is often closed, as well. I'm planning a nice series of runs for this upcoming season, should be really fun and 'spirited'. |

hm, my bike was getting salt drip on it inside the darn parking garage. Had to go. I also had to return the aerostich I was borrowing. My bike is now safely tuckeed away in the back corner of my brother s shop deep in the other side of brooklyn. mininmum 40 minute subway ride away. Uh, I think winter sucks! NYC is crazy enough riding when the weather is nice, the snow and ice add a whole new dimension of insanity to the cabs, TLC's and suv's and GIANT pot holes that make" our beloved City" the "mecca" for motorcycling that it is! Now for you guys up there in more rural areas, I could actually concieve of the notion of going for a winter putt as darn near doable... Go for it, Tramp! And Hammer!(you crazy so-and-so's!) (I'm not jealous, really, I'm not?) The bike's only been away for a week, and I'm already contemplating winter riding? OMG!!! What the heck is this crazy east coast place doing to me!?!?!?!?!??! |

hammer, throw a couple hours at the 200x and it's damn near a snowmobile. good set of woolybuggers on it already, throws some crazy rooster tales. searchin for a good set of snow tires now for my quad before withdrawal sets in. where's injunmort, he said he can bring over 4 sleds, maybe we can all go ridin and then stop off at scully's for a beer and finally have that cigar! (it's a boy!) |

THAT sounds like a Plan! you SEE those mean sleds him have? Bigblock- many of my most memorable nights on my Buell were in NYC in The Winter thundering about with the Angels. No stopping their riding season... For some reason I love riding this time of year, and the cold has the same effect on my V-twin mill that a baker's dozen Guinness Pints have on an Irish Brawler. Buell- the Irish Pugilist of modern mahinery.... |

ya, let the insanity commence.., when i was in my 20's i used to go riding in thunderstorms in the middle of winter with levi jacket and sunglasses for FUN! No helmets or riding suits or raingear or touring boots , didn't even know what that stuff was, or even care 15- 20 years ago! Of course, those Northern CA winters are a LOT gentler than what we're getting here. Generally warms up into the 40's atleast when it rains. |

Nothing like having to take off your work boots and pour 'em out every time you stop... Of course , that happens here some days, and you have to thaw them out before you can pour them out! |

having sepnt an el nino autumn/winter in the SF Bay Area, i gotta say I find commuting in sub-zero weather on salty NY roads less scary than commuting in 50oF weather in sheets of rain and hailstones while doing mrtal combat with unlicensed viet~namese overnight immigrant drivers jabbering frantically into cell phones whilst performing 90o angle lane changes every 50 feet at 80 MPH with no signalling whatsoever. let it snow....... |

most of the above-cited commuting in Palo alto, Santa Clara, Los Gatos and Mountain View was done on brand new sales floor Triumphs and BMWs, as well... |

hm, I used to commute thru SF on my old ironhead sporty. Took an hour + ride in sheets of rain combined with hailstones late last year. Unlike the old days, however, I was wearing some riding gear and a full-face!(that would've been tough to take even in my 20's without decent gear!) |

I've pretty much always worn fullfaces. makes it tougher for witnesses in the ensuing lineup, later |
