I don't wanna be right! Anyhow, question...since we can't have an independent Buell store..is it possible to find shops for us non-wrenchy types, ASIDE from HD, where expertly trained Buell mechanic's work? Does that completely void the warranty? It would be cool if it was mandatory for every HD/Buell store to have a mechanic who was really and truly well trained, about the minute nitty gritty of buells.. I've noticed that many places have or say they have a great buell mechanic who turns out to secretly despise buells, even though he or she can technically work on them.. Am I making any sense? | ||

Well each dealer should have a Buell trained tech. (and V-Rod), i think it used to be that if you did not have a Buell or V-Rod trained tech that you could not sell or do warranty work for those models. I my self was moved from our one shop that does not sell Buells to the one that does. I was saposed to go to school for Buell (I did take the Buell class at MMI) but they thought it would be better to send somebody that needs the class more than i do. The main reason for moving me was due to that i ride a Buell...a 100hp one at that and people were coming to the shop wanting me to wrench on their bike but for some reason they told the people they HAD to take it to the other shop...well i ended up doing most of their work on the side. well, maybe they just need to get more guys like you out there..ones who not only work on buells but ride and love them..I think when the passion for the bike isn't there, then the standard of care might be less enthusiastic...not with everyone of course.. | ||

It does not bother me that nobody at my shop wants to work on them...more $ for me haha. I even have the sales people bring new Buell owners back to talk to me. I do the bike walk around and tell them about the services, help them if they want to do race kit or get "X" pipe and tell them what the need to to to keep it running correct. i also ask their weight to set up the forks and shock (i just did a 12R for a 95lb girl) (Message edited by rageonthedl on December 08, 2005) | ||

Couple hours away, but for serious engine work, once you get those boot broken-in, Cycle-Rama. Give Pammy a call and ask her for a recommendation on a local shop for your XB. | ||

Blake..you SO rock..just so ya' know!! I will call Pammy and yes..a couple or 5 hours..same diff..lol.. boots are going for their first real ride this weekend..weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! | ||

In my area (NY's OC) there is a really good MMI-trained tech who does plenty of Buell stuff, in Goshen, NY. He and I were partners at my old shop for awhile. Many of the really good guys stay low-profile, because our local building inspectors, 'revenooooers', etc., make it near-impossible for the little guy to stay above water. That's one of the myriad reasons these boards are so helpful. ....finding the indy shops. | ||

"Does that completely void the warranty?" It's not supposed to be, but voiding a warranty is somewhat if not very subjective depending on the shop you go to for warranty work. Only authorized/approved shops can do "warranty work", but any shop or person can work on your bike for other stuff. The rub comes when you have to get some warranty work done later and if an issue arises as to who did prior work and did that prior work void or cause any warranty covered repairs. Call it the dirty fine print side of the warranty issue. But do listen to Pammy, she'll guide you right if you ask her right. | ||

If you're dealing with a small, really independent shop, chances are they won't record the RO with HD/Buell, therefore warranty doesn't have to know. |
