Okay. I am an idiot. My 2002 X1 fuel light was on when I left work and I thought I could make it to the gas station. I didn't. It started to cut out on the off ramp and as I approached the gas station it continued to burp and cough. I ran out of gas 100' from the station, pushed the bike there, topped off and my bike ran like crap all afternoon. Cutting out, surging, etc. It seemed to run better when accelerating but steady riding around 4000 to 5000 rpm's -again with the cutting in and out. I have the race ecm and a power commander on my bike. I don't know if the FI sucked air that has to work its way out or if the FI fouled the plugs (or burnt them) due to running too rich or too lean. I havn't had any time to check the plugs for fouling but I'm wondering if I need the TPS reset or something. |

run the bike at 3400 RPM for a few miles, the TPS will reset itself. |

I'll try that... I hope it works. |

Just for clarification you are not reseting the TPS but rather the AFV (adaptive fuel value) it is the common fix in such situations... |

I did the same thing on my 200 S3T this summer. I needed a new oxygen sensor. Is your check engine lite staying on? Make a jumper wire and check for any trouble codes. That is how I diagnosed by O2 sensor. |

Don't panic. If it was running out of gas on the highway, it will "learn" to run as good as possible. Run it in closed loop for a while and it will unlearn how to run when it's out of gas. I only ran mine out of gas twice: #1 I was on the highway going 80-90 (Arizona) After I gotgas, it ran like it was going to lie down and die for about 15 minutes but it woke up and ran ok. I didn't know about open/closed loop back then. #2 A few months ago at work, I was going 25 or so. THIS time, I didn't try to keep it running by pumping. I pushed it to a gas station and it ran fine like nothing ever happened. I guess I was going too slow for it to learn how to run badly? |
