It's been a bit of a rush since I only got my BMW HP 2 about three weeks ago but as you can see she's stripped to the bone and ready to go. Lightweight minimal bodywork. 50mm Marzocchis. Twin radial Brembo calipers etc etc. Sadly it was to late for an official Dakar entry so I'm just gonna race alongside the official entries, and blow them into the weeds (sand) - including Pete. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE - THIS IS A SERIOUS ATTEMPT Rocket |

Rocket- Good luck! After reading some of the other guy's writings on their experiences I have a lot of respect for the effort required. I know how I felt after doing a 4-day dual-sport event in the Colorado mountains. And I'm sure it was nothing compared to the Dakar. |

Ok ok. Before this little bit of fun gets outta hand. Besides, not only am I not fit enough to ride anything off road for any serious amount of time or distance at the mo, it's been a good few years since I rode a Crosser, I couldn't even walk the short distance to the local shops with my back condition. The BMW HP2 in the pic is a prototype from Italian stylist Luciano Marabese. BMW gave Marabese a pre-production HP2 and what you see in the pic is his design and build. It will never see production. It's strictly prototype. Featured on page 2 and 3 of this weeks MCN, I trawled the net for ages trying to find a pic (the one above) of the thing. Pete, I bet Griz likes it? Griz should keep us posted on his Alto effort too. Sorry to those who's leg I successfully pulled Rocket |

You guys are going to run into a pal of mine, Charlie Rauseo. He will be riding with two other experienced rally racers. We at American Sport Bike Night get to hear him out this December 5th before he heads out. |

Rocket- I figured that there was no way they were going to let you ride along, but I figured, hey let's go with it. Of course, now that you are committed, go for it! |

Brane, it would be cheaper and a lot easier if you send 40 euros to Pete. He is nearing the start line in a serious attempt, and your 40 euros could win you his KTM once he's finished. That's 40 euros for a good cause. Rocket |

Just to be clear, it's not a lottery or a raffle. The bike will be given away if we reach the target of 1000 names, as a thank you gift for reaching it. So far we're between 200-300 with about three weeks to go.... Any support is very much appreciated though

Pete, those 1000 tickets should have all sold with someone making the effort to do so. Neil, my friend you met in A*dam, recently bought a £10 ticket off Ebay to win a Maserati Biturbo. The sale is limited to 500 tickets. Someone will win it. Get those remaining 700 tickets on Ebay NOW. You state that all ticket sales will be returned if all 700 are not sold. After all, you can keep selling the tickets even after you've won the Dakar. One more thing. If I win you can keep the bike. The 40 Eurythmic's is the least I could do to help. Trust me mate. I've spent the last two years or more pulling the business back together, and whilst there have been some small treats, it's been no bed of roses. If I could afford you more...... Rocket |

Rocket, Thanks mate. Problem is, if I make it a lottery, it needs to be official in Holland. a) The rules here are extremely tough to do it. b) I really just don't have the time to make it happen. I'm already struggling to balance work, family and Dakar. Not meaning to sound like a complaint as it's not. It's just reality |

You don't need me to tell you 700 tickets is 28000 euros! How's the final prepping looking anyway? My guess is you're about all there, done dusted and ready for the start line? Rocket |

Pete, We gossiped about you at American Sport Bike Night last night. Jim Higgins told our pal Charlie Rauseo to look out for you at Dakar. Charlie said he would be happy to indeed. Hey it's a fellowship quest, right? |

Looks like Grizzly is putting that HP2 to good use. We are both going to the Alto Turia in May. Should be interesting to see how the HP2, a KTM Rally, and Henno on his XT500 handle the hills. I'm betting the XT is gunna kick our butts |
