I read this and thought it was something to pass along. At this point in my life I am losing a lot of friends and family. It is hard but we have to move on with our life. We should try and enjoy life to it fullest.

> George Carlin's Views on Aging
>
> Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.
>
> "How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.
>
> You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
>
> "How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
> !
> But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?
>
> You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50
> and your dreams are gone.
>
> But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
>
> So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.
>
> You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!
>
> You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."
>
> Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"
> May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

I agree with that on everything but "1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them " "

Those number of body fat, blood sugar, Cholestrol etc can and will lower your lifespan and quality of life.

The "doctors" will not help you exercise or eat right. The "doctors" will give you some diet pills but thats about it. BTW some prescription diet pills are low dose meth! I even had a "doctor" last week ask me how he could bulk up. I told him its mostly nutrition and his reply so I have to learn more.

Too right - a good bike ride not only stops the clock but it can turn it back as well, at least mentally.

The Badweb - psychology as well as diverse opinion and vigorous debate

Mountainrider....man, I hear ya buddy..that's why I ride. Coz it makes you remember you're alive..found "instructions for life" from the Dalai Lama..

1. Take into account the great love and great achievements involve great risk
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson
3. Follow the 3 r's: respect for self, respect for others and responsibility for all your actions
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly
6.Don't let a little dispute ruin a great friendship
7.When you realize you've make a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it
8. Spend some time alone everyday (preferably on your Buell)
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer
11. live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation of you life
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past
14. Share your knowledge. It's a great way to achieve immortality
15. Be gently with the earth
16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other
18.Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it...

My motto:

" I' m too damn old to be old fashioned!"

My problem:

" My memory just ain't as good as I remember it"

Mountianrider,
You haven't even started to get old yet. Give us a reflection in another fifteen or so years. And I'll try to remember that I asked you to.Good post for us upper middleagers though...Charlie

Fart loudly at least once a day for at least 90 years and you'll live to be an old man.

If more people realized the inevitability of their aging, they would appreciate how fleeting youth is. People would then see the true value of life and not squander it on petty debates, personal vendettas, hate, and narrow-minded territorialism. And if we ever get to the point where we can't ride anymore, at least we'll be secure in the knowledge that we lived life to the fullest. I can only hope that Buell decides to make those old folks scooters that you see advertised on TV.

If you died at this very instant, would die having done everything you could, talk in trust to those you cherish, slowed enough to enjoy the beauty around you. Would those that you left behind say that "he was always full of life"?
I told my wife to throw a party at my funeral. After having life changing illness, I learned to slow down and enjoy what I have, not what I wish I had.
My favorite saying: "I don't want to be buried prim and proper, I want to slide into home plate battered and bruised screaming YEEHAAAWWW! What a Ride!"
Don't worry about aging, it is gonna happen anyway. Let's go ride and keep our spirits young!

Gotta comment on #6. I am a Christian which means I am NEVER alone. My Father is always with me which has brought great comfort during many times of despair/fear. To know Him is to know true love and constant companionship.
Not trying to win converts or give a sermon just my own personal feelings on living life.
