picked up the bike and the tech (Dan) spent quite a bit of time going into great detail about the work that was done. they approached all of the usual (complete disassembly of the primary & top end, including removal of the cylinders) with an appropriate methodical manner finding only an out of spec lifter (this was obviously replaced). next they began to look at "what ifs", down to items as small as looking for vibration within the exhaust power valve. i honestly can not find fault with the work that was done or in the process of elimination that was used(tramp, it would have been great to have you there, they seem to be very open to ideas). buell motor co has stepped up and put into writing that this motor will be covered should any future problem arise, complete with name and numbers of who to contact at bmc should i have any issues. flogged the bike for about an hour and it runs clean from idle to redline(no detonation). still has the odd sound but i'm no longer bothered by it. if the sound ever changes she'll be right back in getting torn down and "rehabed", till then it's just character. having grown up working in a bike shop and spending ten years in a manufacturing company i really can't see where bmc could do much more (short of just throwing a new motor at it, but with a leakdown test of 5% i'm not sure i would want a different motor). the really impressive thing in all of this is the number of people who have contacted me and offered their help. there are probably few machines available today that come with this type of "warranty", it really is the people here that make the difference. just post a problem here on badweb or american thunderbike and you will be blown away by the help that is offered. class act. |

That's great news, Mike. That's a great way to look at the errant noise: "Character". we all sound a little different, why shouldn't our motorcycles? The bottom line is how it runs... I mean- my *ss has a big crack it in, and it still works like a charm. ...I suspect Court had some hand in this, as well... (Um....your XB, NOT my *ss) |

Sounds like you have a decent dealership there too! |

as to the dealership, I can say that Ron Pink is an absolute gentleman, from what I met of him on the Headless Horseman Run, and Jeff is dynamite. I met him when Mike dropped the XB off. Those two I can vouch for. (Message edited by tramp on December 01, 2005) |

Well, Tramp, with the exception of a 'Zig when he should have Zagged' we WOULD have met JEff on that run. |

Thanks for the good report. The worth of this Buell community is priceless. I'm glad to be a part of it. Court deserves a kudo or two. |

Mike's not, in my mind, a "closed case" yet but it looks like it's straightened out. I have a note to follow up down the road to make certain all commitments are followed through on. Tell ya a secret. The KEY to solving anything, doing any and basically making anything from a tire change to an event, successful is an excellent dealer. Danbury excels on all fronts. We're off on the next case in the "Court Files" . . . a far trickier one. |

Court, are you following Eor's Tale? I don't recall seeing you post anything over there. |

yes, court is a definite part of why i am ok with what has happened. so is danbury hd (rod, jeff, & dan), as well as people like tramp, hammer, and cochise. knowing there are people that will help you out is what used to make harley "different", now it's seems to be buell's turn. this could speak of a bright future for the little company (sorry, division). damn, we're kinda like the amish or sumthin(barn burns down, whole community rebuilds it). like i said, class act! |

"rumpspringa" a seriously good time, kinda like an extended spring break for amish kids complete with drugs, sex, and rock & roll. gotta see the other side (devils playground?)before you make a decision like that, they have something like an 80% retension rate. tramp, your welcome to work on the box van anytime you like, no need to ask really. just let me know and i'll leave the keys in her. |

Mike, Good to hear things are on the plus side for your ride. One thing for sure, as Court stated: The KEY to solving anything, doing any and basically making anything from a tire change to an event, successful is an excellent dealer. and that we have with Dandury, its staff and the folks on this board that are always willing to help. Hey Mike, you were correct the first time, it is indeed Buell Motorcycle Company a wholly owned subsidiary of Harley-Davidson Incorporated. |
