It must be the daily use of aspartame or perhaps being over 4-0. I had yesterday off and decided to take care of some maintenance on my '96 Mustang Cobra and the Ulysses. To make a long story short; - I locked myself out of the house - Changed the thermostat on my car but installed the old one - Topped off the Ulysses swing arm & floor with 4 quarts of oil. (I was using the economy 5 quart container of Mobile 1 similar to the 5W30 I used on the car earlier) - Found out it's a real b!tch to get a funnel full of oil off the swing arm and back into the oil container without making a big mess even larger. Sorry to hear that... Well, Mostly... It was funny . I did close to the same thing the second time I changed the oil on my "R" but it was the draining oil and my funnel was too small to keep up with the flow rate out of the swingarm. As I realized that it couldn't keep up I dropped the stupid drain plug INTO the funnel which of course plugged it completely AND I had to reach my hand into fairly hot oil to retrieve it. I feel for you . As a side note... Ajax works pretty well to wash oil off of concrete. |

It would be nice if manufacturers would take more notice of the mess involved in oil changes. Most vehicles I own drain the oil from the plug and filter directly onto something that could do without the extra lube. How hard would it be to clean up the process. An extended hose with a petcock? A remotely mounted filter? I use lots of tin foil, cardboard, whatever, and still manage to make a mess. Come on OEM get with it. May be an opportunity for the aftermarket. SteveH |

I changed the oil on my Concours once and immediately took it for a ride. I checked the oil level after running it and realized I had over filled it. I decided I could back the drain screw out enough to drain about a quart and then retighten it in time to stop the oil flow. Ok so hot oil + hand = ouch. I back it out too far and oil starts going everywhere. Only about half of it makes it into the drain pan. Ok, so now I get a new gallon jug of Rotella and carefully measure 3 quarts into the bike, and watch in horror as I realize I forgot to put the drain plug back in and 3 quarts of new oil are getting intimate with my basement floor. I wasted 2 gallons of oil for 1 oil change. Dave, I ain't over 40, so the aspartame is my only excuse. I got a thing for diet coke with Lime though Mmmmmmm. |

I know people say that the Buells are an oil hog, but dang man. Don't drown it. |

FRAM makes that cool donkey tube thingy. Replaces your drain pan plug with an adapter. screw the drain hose on to it and a valve opens allowing the oil to drain. I actually put one on the RS after seeing the drain location.... |

Alrighty sanchez-here's one of the Ulysses with the '96 in the background-gotta try and keep it Buell At first, I just could not fathom what the heck was going on. After staring a few seconds at the oil ooozing out, I finally grasped what was happening and laughed At least I know the idiot that works on my stuff! DAve |
