The Seattle show is an absolute hoot! Home of some of rock music's coolest history and America's first women mayor, the city is a quietly concealed moto-mecca. It is also, for you tube-headers, one of the first places a 1996 S-1 Lightning met the public. Almost didn't happen as HD didn't have one they wanted to part with. The good news, if you were a Buell owner, was that I had a trailer (empty at the moment) on the back of an SHO sitting in the parking lot. The next day a couple folks, but not many, were curious as to what happened to the black S-1 that had been on display in the lobby. Within days I was arriving at one of the first in the area Buell parties, hosted by local developer Mike Bledsoe (Drew's Uncle) in a place called Queen Anne Hill. Seattle, with it's convention center straddling I-5 is a GREAT place and the space needle served as a great example of the HP vs. torque illustration I used in a piece I wrote in 1996. I want pictures Dora!

IMS Seattle was one of the first motorcycle shows I remember going to, I had a great time and got a great introduction to the world of bikes. My Dad and I had a blast... Anyone who can go, should...it's a outstanding show and there is absolutely no end in things to see... |

Hey. . . they are ALL a hoot! In 1995 and 1996 I went to about all of them. In fact, I don't recall who it was, but one year a fellow RODE to all of them...a fairly neat feat given the slime of year. Tell them you want to go to NYC and we'll revive the whoop Buell Party (yes, Ducati HOSTED the Buell party and even brought in a Super Mono, one year....remind me to tell you THAT story!) we used to hold in NYC in the 90's. |

Ooops. . sorry. . should have clarified. It is. . . . Intentional Motorcyle Sacrifice You may have glossed over it and there isn't much talk on the internet, but in the papers you signed when you bought your Buell there is a little known codicil that obligates Buell owners to annually run their Buells up to about 40MPH indicated, smash them into various objects and then report, on a factory provided form, the results to the Buell Tests and Analysis Team. The data is used in the design of test protocols for new products. By doing this Buell has significantly reduced the price of the motorcycles we enjoy today and created a huge market for replacement parts and orthopedic surgery in what, up until Buell revolutionized the business, traditionally has been a slow season. Anyway. . . it sounds as though you didn't get your forms yet. The fellows responsible for getting them out suffered some memory lapse and are still laid up from last years required ritual. "Required Ritual". . . you have heard of the Buell RR, right? Anyway. . . I'll make certain the forms get on the way to you, but in the interim, go ahead and see if you can find a tree or perhaps a structurally sound wall for this years event. P.S. it's the INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SHOW. . . the annual chance to stand in line for 3 hours to pay $9 for what you can see free at your dealer's showroom |

Thanks Court, "You may have glossed over it and there isn't much talk on the internet, but in the papers you signed when you bought your Buell there is a little known codicil that obligates Buell owners to annually run their Buells up to about 40MPH indicated, smash them into various objects and then report, on a factory provided form, the results to the Buell Tests and Analysis Team." I now know why all the cagers are all ways cutting me off in traffic. They feel obligated to help. |

To clarify, the show will be at the Qwest Field Exhibition Center, not the Convention Center over I-5. I'll be there. Let's hope the rain stays away so more attendants' bikes come along (including my own). |

yes, you CAN normally see everything at a dealer's showroom, but this is a chance to see the WHOLE lineup, from every major motorcycle manufacturer, with corporate folks in attendance as well. so its a neat way to get a feel for what the whole market is doing in one location. i think they are pretty cool. i went to the wash DC one last year as a spectator, and will be at the long beach one this year as a worker bee. site for IMS is http://show.motorcycleshows.com you can click on each city for specifics. >>>>but this is a chance to see the WHOLE lineup, from every major motorcycle manufacturer Absolutely accurate. And, mayhaps, the BEST opportunity to place butt to seat and do some real time compariosity. The shows are very well done. |
