As some of you may have read a couple of weeks ago, I bought Jack "Hammer" Reinhart's M2XS on eBay from Rock River Powersports in Jefferson, WI. The bike arrived last Monday, and I trailered it home in a crate. I think I started grinning stupidly about the time I heard the exhaust note for the first time, and I haven't stopped since then. It's a 2002 M2 Cyclone with a 2003 XB9S front end and a 1998 S1 tank and tail. It has Buell race headers, muffler, and air cleaner. It rumbles and lopes like a muscle car (if only I could get my Cobra to sound so good), the torque is just astounding, and the handling is so much better than my previous bike that even a fairly new rider like me can easily feel the difference in corners. So are there any 3%ers around here? I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow Buell riders around Atlanta, and I owe 1313 a picture at the Vortex. (Message edited by sanchez on November 14, 2005) |

98 S1's (non-S1W's) had the small tank too. Congrats, Sanchez! 1313 |

Believe it or not the letters on my 98 S1 small tank are still OK. The tank is in the ceiling of my garage as I went to the manta tank for longer distance. |

What kinda mirrors are those??? As far as I know, they're stock 03 XB9S mirrors. They have a good field of view for changing lanes, but I can't see anything other than my elbows when I try to look directly behind me. After leading a ride with some other biker friends Saturday and having no clue if they were keeping up for not, I got this: 3rd Eye bar end mirror, $13 at REI. Its field of view isn't wide enough to replace the stock mirrors, but it's a great addition to them. It's low enough that my arms don't get in the way, and I can actually see what's directly behind me now. I'm thinking I might get rid of all 3 mirrors in favor of some Rizoma bar ends eventually, but for now, the 3rd Eye works like a champ. |

98 S1's (non-S1W's) had the small tank too. That explains the 80 mile range. :P Perhaps this is a dumb question, but how much gas should I be able to cram into this thing? If I ride it down to the reserve and refill, I get about 2 gallons in before the pump shuts off. |

Hmmmm? I thought they looked different in the other pictures, Not rounded more like a triangle shape. Maybe I'm seeing things. The last pic you posted they look just like my X1 mirrors. |

Sanchez -- while I forget the capacity of the tank (along with so many other things ;-} ), tubers are know for, among other things, having very large reserve capacities -- I'm guess a development engineer was stranded in Nowheresville Wisconsin on a long ride, and decided to make up for it by extending the length of the tube on the petcock -- you can easily shorten the tube, if you want . . . sweet scoot, sir -- enjoy it! |

If I recall correctly, those skinny S1 tanks are supposed to hold 4 gallons, but I've never been able to get more than 3 1/2 into mine, even when it's bone dry. Not that it matters; I couldn't ride the thing 150 miles without taking a break unless I could see a mushroom cloud in my mirrors... rt |

1313 didn't they though all get recalled that year for the lettering on the tanks?? As far as I am aware of, there was no recall on the tanks (small or large). Even original manta ray tanks are susceptible to bubbling decals. Increasing the material amount (i.e. thickness) of the tanks was a first attempt to stop the bubbling decals, but the ultimate solution was the raised (3-D) decals. As for reserve on tubers, I start squirmin' when I've gone over 25 miles on reserve on my S2...But then again, I don't believe I've ever run it dry... 1313 |

Even original manta ray tanks are susceptible to bubbling decals. I definitely have that issue.
