Kidding aside, I'm not sure how I'd do knowing I'd have to put my bike away for a few months every year. Do ya'll have snowmobiles also? What do ya'll do during the winter when it's too brutal out? Just curious, because I'm an outdoor lover, and not having to stay inside because of winter, just wondered what ya'll do when you're not out ridin'. |

keep the battery charged cause you never know when the chinook winds (snow eater) is coming... some times you can ride every month in the great white north. but seriously fresh oil, fuel stabilizer and battery tender has worked for me. |

I've got an ATV which most of the time is ok. Never did get into the snowmobile thing. Don't know why just haven't. As long as the roads are not icy I will continue to ride.

I turn the key to "OFF" and go inside I check the battery voltage from time to time and put it on .5A trickle charge if it drops below 12.5V. Make sure the fuel tank is topped off to reduce condensation in there. I seldom leave it alone and not running for more than 2 months. I haven't had any problems. |

Not to your bikes! I've seen thread after thread, year after year, on how to store a bike. I was wondering what ya'll do when you can't ride. Hobbies? Please don't say all ya do is argue on the internet all day, sad but it seems that does happen from time to time. |

I am in the market to a Snowmobile... i am accualy in the running to win one from a local radio station.. that would be kwel. But if not then we are selling the Firebird to buy a snowmobile or Jetski for the cottage... other wise i spend most of my winter time fixing the house, teaching my students how to kill each other, and speanding quality time w/ my daughter. |

Winter rebuilds, customization, paint, so forth. It's an age-old tradition in the Spring to see what gets wheeled out onto the street from the Winter's labors. Many bikes get shoehorned down into basements, hoisted into lofts, negotiated into living rooms and kitchens. I hope to get back into cycling again (pedal type) and will probably put the studded snow tires back on the mountain bike for the winter if I can find some replacement suspension for the polymer balls the bike now has (it's an older ProFlex MTB with the girder front end for those out there who cycle). There's plenty to stay busy with indoors or out, remodeling the house, patching up the house from the summer-time prepping, starting a business or expanding/developing an existing side-venture, and a whole bunch of other stuffs. Plus when it snows we get to shovel or blow snow, and when it's icy we get to throw chem-salts around (dries the skin but keeps the bum unbruised).

"teaching my students how to kill each other" What discipline or art or method do you teach? I've thought about getting back into that a little again too. I'm about a limber as a dried oak branch sticking up out of a frozen lake when the air temp is -20°F, but that too can be worked on over the winter months. |

Fullpower has the right idea! I use hardened screws that look like sheet metal screws on my DR650. You should see the looks I get from the neighbors when I go riding around the neighborhood sliding the corners after a heavy wet snow. They also help in the Spring mud. Otherwise I cross country ski. |

I enjoy building models, so I build motorcycle models during the winter months. I also find good motorcycle books to read. One that I have to suggest to everyone who can't ride during the winter is "The Perfect Vehicle: What it is About Motorcycles" by Melissa Holbrook Pierson. It is an absolutely fabulous book-length piece of journalism that captures the love for motorcycles that we try to put into words every day. I am reading it right now, and I am loving and living every word. So, go pick it up at your local Barnes & Noble for $15. Josh D. Cedar Rapids, IA |

Well, the one that I did have built didn't survive the move. It was a new model CB450. I just recently started on a 69 CB72. I be sure to post a pic when I get it finished. Josh Davis Cedar Rapids,IA |

IAMike - Thanks, though I've been posting to that StormFronts group for a month or so. Craig and I just got together not too long ago so I could ride an XB9R. I'll be watching for rides this spring. |
