By "only a few minutes" I mean like 15 to 30 minutes. Which is a few in comparison to how many minutes it would take to cross the state. But the fact that the first three troopers they encountered pulled them over is starting to have statistical significance. The report may have been about one county or one area; not necessarily the whole state. I don't remember I and my family had such a great time in Texas this summer, I'll jump in on this one. We drove from the Oklahoma line to the hill country, San Antonio, Austin and state highways back to eastern Oklahoma. I crossed paths with several LEO's and not one of them looked twice at my Kansas plates. Heck, one or two even smiled. The best, most courteous drivers I have ever seen have got to be Texas natives (and I've driven in about 40 states). Slower traffic kept right, the only time I was tailgated was by another Kansan, if I overtook somebody on a two lane, they pulled onto the shoulder to let me pass, people used their turn indicators, stop signs got full stops, speed limits were reasonably set and people observed them. Even in San Antonio and Austin city traffic, drivers left a decent amount of room around each other. (Yeah, yeah, I know, Dallas and Houston freeways are different.) In one small town restaurant, I never saw a firearm but I somehow knew most people there were armed. I don't think I ever felt safer. Basically, it was a great trip. We had a great time and felt welcome and we were never hassled. I'm not a native Texan, but I wish were. |

"I just think it's funny how you can write off an entire State as a result of folklore and a 60 Minutes expose'." There are actually way more reasons than that, but this is not the place for it. I am sure you have heard them all. I've even seen T-shirts that say "All 49 states agree - Texas Sucks", and I want one. |

Texas does not murder the most, it kills the most. Murder is an unlawful killing. I'd like to think that every executed criminal deserved what they got. Jack |

I think Texas has the best violent criminal reform program of any state. Once "reformed" they'll NEVER commit a crime again! Ever!

I wish other states would kill more. GO TEXAS. Kill them rat bastiges. Need a switch thrower? I'm your man. Oh, and I think if you run from a cop he should be able to shoot you (running you over with a car works too). If you die, oh well...Shouldn't have run. |

Ohio is a much better state isn't it? Sex offenders: A problem on the rise Juvenile Sex Offenders Not Required To Stay Away From Schools Ohio judge in courthouse sex scandal Point being, every state has their problems, no need to state bash. We all live in the Good Ol' U.S.A. I've even seen T-shirts that say "All 49 states agree - Texas Sucks", and I want one. Enjoy your t-shirt, but don't think that because you read it on a t-shirt it makes it true, it will however probably off a bunch of Texans you seem to be so scared of. |

The Cleveland dude was obviously raped by a Texan, maybe a big state trooper Texan. The fanciful stories about mistreated out of staters is amusing. When I brought my 400HP bright red with white racing stripes 1970 Chevelle SS to Dallas in 1982 it had Pennsylvania plates. Stuck out like a sore thumb. My most memorable encounter with police in that fearsome muscle car was the time at the mall after having filled the entire parking garage with tire smoke, the battery died and who came to the rescue? Darn cops! No, somehow I just didn't quite fit into the preppy mold of most students attending SMU. |

"I think Texas has the best violent criminal reform program of any state. Once "reformed" they'll NEVER commit a crime again! Ever! " Indeed. Now here in my great state of CA, a death sentence takes 11 years to be carried out. The state incurs over 1 Million in costs for housing the killer AND for his/her state paid appeals. So, the message is clear. If you are in Texas an fixing for a killin', drag your intended to CA for the event. Hmmmm!!!!!! |

Why you don't want to get arrested in TX Is the title of this thread. Made me think, why would anyone want to get arrested anywhere? |

Wow.... I didn't think this post was gonna go anywhere, and like a day later a zillion posts... TX Panhandle is FLAT and BORING to drive through I-40 I think... I've driven that two to many times. So I can understand why wasteland would be applied to TX if that is the only part that was seen. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion on what part of the county sucks more than the other... I'm proud to be from Ohio but would rather be living back in AZ (more riding time ) No one is ever gonna believe that their state sucks if they live in it and love it...SO why argue... When an out of state plate is traveling through on a major route...known for drug trafficing...ie MEXICO --> US and TX is in the middle of that I would be more likely to stop the car too. There is nothing inherently wrong with that if the stop is justified by PC and the stop doesn't take any longer than needed. Officer contact can be a positive experience (unlike the video) my $.02 (Message edited by chevysolid on November 10, 2005) |
