with that kind of mileage you must have been riding in the oft-reported "anti gravity" zone or on the frictionless superhighway. NUTS |

I just got a set of D208s on my M2. They are awesome! I only have about 115 miles on them so far. Before that I had two sets of D205s. The first set lasted 10,000 miles. The second set lasted 12,000! They both should have been changed at about 8,000 though. What's the advantage of Pirellis over Dunlops? |

Never tried the D208's, but if you had the D220's you would first discover the difference every time you took a corner even moderately aggressively before they warm up. The second time you would discover the difference was when they had about 7000 miles on them (on an M2) and they still have *a little* tread left, and a big long strip of rubber peels right off the middle. You will then think your 2nd gear dogs are shot, because of the filling jarring wheel hop on hard 2nd gear accelerations. Hopefully you will replace the tire "just in case" before tearing into the tranny, and be pleasently suprised to see the problem dissapear with the Dunlop logo. On the M2, I liked the Metzler MeZ6 best. On the 9sx, I am loving the Scorpion Syncs. If I still had the M2, I would put the Syncs on and see how they last. If they were within 15% of the life of the MeZ6 (which stuck well and wore really well) I would definately go with the Syncs. Otherwise, I would just give up a little grip and go with the MeZ6, as the M2 runs out of lean long before the 9sx does, and so can probably live with a little less sticky rubber. I think you will find the D208's wearing $cary fa$t also. Many people complain about how the profile behaves, particularly how the bike "stands up while braking", but I took three test rides on 3 XB's (2 XB9S and 1 XB9R) and had no issue. You just counter steer more, it's not like my brain is an open loop system. If the bike wants to stand, I counter steer harder. I don't even have to think about it. In fact (and I am *way* off topic here), I got to ride a buddies VSTrom, and the thing was driving me nuts the way it did NOT stand up, either on turning or braking. I want to push the bars to turn, and when I release the bars I want the bike to straighten up. With the VSTrom, it felt like the bike would just keep tracking the turns and I had to apply force to straighten out, instead of just releasing force and feeling the bike straighten out nicely. To each their own though. |

Replaced the stock Dunlops with Metzlers and changed the whole character of the bike for the better. Got over 10K on back and front still going. |

My stock dunslops(not a missprint) lasted only 2,200 miles? maybe I ride too hard. |

I need to learn your secret. I have never been able to get more than 4,000 miles out of a tire. Tried Dunlop 207(2500), Bridgestone Battle trax(2800), two Maxxis Supermax(3400 & 4000) and now I'm back to Dunlops again (the new Uly-style). If this new tire doesn't get a little better milage than the previous ones I'm about ready to slap a 50K mile car tire on 'er and call it a deal. Rob |

Let us know how those new Dunlops work out, I am curious how they wear. Other good tires to consider would be the Metzler MeZ6 (harder and will wear longer, less grip but still a good sticky tire) and the Scorpion Syncs (stickier then the MeZ6, better on gravel / mud / grass, probably still longer wearing then a D207) |

I tend to get as many miles as I can out of my tires...sometimes I get a little too far though... I have found the Michelin Pilot Roads to grip pretty good and still give me at least 8000 miles out of the rear...there is a TON of tread on those tires when new...like 1/4" thick at least. The Pilot Powers and Sport grip even better but still give more miles than the stock Dunlops in most cases... |

I must be one of the fortunate riders in the group. I get a minimum 7,500 miles out of a Dunlop 207's and 208's rear and more out of the fronts with no cupping, but I always replace both tires at the same time. I guess my secret is that I am gentle on the throttle until I get up to speed. Still have plenty of acceleration to beat the herd but am saving the rubber for the twisties. Not to mention, the LEO's are usually in the straights and I really have a dislike for tickets. LOL Which is why I accelerate out of the turn while still leaning and cool it in the straights. In conclusion, I believe that everyone will have a different favorite tire that is contingent upon the way they ride. I just can't see a good cornering tire being worth a hoot in light to light straight line sprints. Lastly, as Reep indicated, a sport touring tire is great for general 7/10ths riding, but undesirable if you are cooking 7/10ths plus in the twisties. |

I agree that the Michelin's give the best milage. But I've never felt comfortable with mine. My Pilot Road rear tire (mounted on my S3T) has over 8K with another 1-2k left. They're just don't provide enough "grip" for me. More than once, the rear has skipped sideways during aggresive riding. I've still been able to scrap the pegs but not always comfortable doing it with the Michelins. In the spring, I'm going to try the Metezlers on the S3T. I'm running the Sportec's on my S1W with great results. I also have a set of Racetec track tires mounted on my spare rims. No experience with them yet but they are STICKY |

For the first couple of seasons of using the S3 for track days I did fine with MeZ4 tires. Not until I needed to remove the kickstand for ground clearance did I feel I was out-riding the sport touring tires. YMMV (pun intended ) Henrik |

The stock Dunlops grip fine but only last a little while. 2000 miles or so. I've tried Maxxis Super Maxx they're OK but the tread lasts longer than the grip. I've tried Metzler M1s and really love these tires, great grip, along with good tire life, over 3000 miles or so. Right now I'm trying the Pirelli Scorpion Syncs, so far so good, they feel a lot like the M1s. |

"Pirelli Scorpion Syncs, so far so good, they feel a lot like the M1s Not suprising considering they're basically the same company. Check out the address of the North American headquarters for both companies: 100 Perelli Dr Rome, GA

Not suprising... To me it is. I know there're basically the same company. But what is surprising to me is the amount of grip I'm getting. I thought it would be less because of the tread pattern differences. Although I don't do burn outs and the like, I'm real hard on tires. The M1s hold up real well, and so far the Scorpions are as well. Rome is only an hour and a half from here, wonder if they have a warehouse nearby as well, maybe an outlet store... |

It's about time Matt! Sheeze, I can't believe that you ran those 208s that long! I'm also lovin' the syncs! 4K miles, and have at least 1/2 the tread left. |

8,000 miles, 10,000 miles?? WTF??? I don't do ANY burn outs... some hard straight line acceleration and "own the corners" when I can.... The best milage I was able to get on Dunlop rears were 4,000 on D-220s.... and 3,500 on D-208s (cords showing in the middle)... Working on Bridestone B020s right now.... 1,500 miles so far, so good. |

I would like to get a cross section of road types here. Cause I get close to 10k on 208s Right now I am 7k on my 208s that included 2 trips to Wi. 4 Rip Off BattleTrax style events. Many miles of twisties (the sides are almost equal to the middle ) One day of drag racing (About 12 to 14 runs including a small warm up) A burn out for Ferris during the FBRAT kickoff. and I still have about a 1/8 of a inch before the wear bar in the center. Paint, I know your in Fl and 80% of the roads are crushed shells so that can be your reason. But I wonder about the others. |
