http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/radar.asp Alberta's new photo radar (No Joke) This is very creative. Circulate this far and wide. This is a test model of a new Photo-Radar Unit Spotted in Edmonton. So much for looking out for minivans! Not just Edmonton, now Calgary, Watch out photo Radar — here is the new version (NO MORE VANS) — now recycle bins. Check out the pictures. One of the girls in my friend's office has already been tagged by one on 50th avenue SW between Macleod and Elbow drive. http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/graphics/alberta1.jpg http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/graphics/alberta2.jpg http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/graphics/alberta3.jpg http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/graphics/alberta4.jpg |

It's in a trash bin?! What's to keep someone from grabbing it a and driving off with it? |

I lived in Zurich, Switzerland for a year back in 1985 and there were radar boxes all over. Funny thing is that noone destoyed them and they were sitting right next to the roadways. And you didn't go to court and argue against them - you received your ticket in the mail and you paid it - end of story. I don't think a radar box sitting beside the road would last a day here. |

I live in Edmonton and the cops have yet to put it into action. There was a huge public negative response when the news aired the story. |

So... Who wants one of those to test and verify your top speed? |

Nevar, That's Switzerland for you , they are a bit more socially obedient than here in the US, in the UK the standing GATSO cameras regularly get burning tires thrown over them. |

"So... Who wants one of those to test and verify your top speed?" In my neck of the woods, they have nice lit signs that tell you your speed. I don't think they have cameras but the cops do like to hide down the road and read the signs. I also see them as a roll-on acceleration tester I have yet to see if there is a third digit. |

I'd get in line to buy it from them! They have a large solar panel. |

Bad thing about those signs that tell speed, is they only go to 99. |

They used to hide the boxes behind tree's & road signs & in plain vans in the UK until the government was taken to the European court for entrapment, & lost! now they HAVE to be clearly visible. Under the same laws, here in France they have a warning sign a half mile to a mile before the box; & they still catch dummies who rip through! Those wheely bins wouldn't last long here in France, people would just run em down! |

We got red light cameras here. |

I'm all against everything discussed above with the exception of the red light cameras. I'm sure most everyone here has their own tales of close calls with 'cage drivers' who squeeze thru or flat out ignore the red lights!!! Remember years ago when the police focused on things besides speeding? Pittsburgh is notorious for red light runners. I 'pushed' a yellow once and worried that I cut it too close, only to look in my rear-view mirror to see first one car, then another, and then a third...TOWING A TRAILER, go thru the red light. Way too often have I been on my bike where I could have been killed if I had not yielded the green to some clueless moron (probably on their cell phone) BLOWING thru the intersection. ...just my $.02 |

I'm COMPLETELY with you on that Kuuud. The most dangerous thing is failure to stop. Stop signs and lights are ignored all the time. I have been honked at and nearly run over several times for stopping at a red light or a sign. |

I had to take an unplanned right hand turn at a red light to avoid getting smashed by the pickup towing a 5th wheel on my 6. Smoking tires and squelling brakes behind me tend to get the adrenaline pumping. |
