Author Message   Fullpower Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 03:55 pm:        Greetings to all 15780 miles on XB 12 today. 40 degrees this morning on way to work, so plenty of riding left this year. I have just removed the (second) Metzeler Z6, and am preparing to slap the Pirelli Sync on front. I have done this a few times before, but can some one refresh my (lack of) memory: do the paint marks go adjacent or opposite the valve stem? Thanks for the help. ( already searched the KV without success.)   U4euh Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 03:58 pm:        Adjacent to the stem.   Fullpower Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 04:20 pm:        thanks, thought so.   Fullpower Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 04:22 pm:        sync mounted, now it is definitely time to replace wheel bearings. any hints to bearing removal?   Fullpower Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 04:59 pm:        just used robinson crusoe methods: heat, and shock. bearings were very close to complete seizure. preparing to knock in a pair of NTN 6005's. planning to keep hub nice 'n' warm, refrigerate the bearings hope to drop 'em in shortly. in case you wondered, yes the bike has been handling a bit funny, thought it might have been the badly worn front rubber, but very stiff gravelly bearings are probably a contributor as well. will report back after ride.   Fullpower Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 05:03 pm:        in case any one cares the stock bearings from the XB12 front wheel are made in taiwan, (as are the footpegs.)   Fullpower Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 05:30 pm:        new bearings NTN 6005LLB went right in, kept them in the freezer for 20 minutes, warmed up the hub with heat gun for a few minutes, dropped in with a gentle tap on outside race, no problem. Scorpion sync looks real good up front. hope to get it warmed up real soon.   Chainsaw Posted on Friday, September 30, 2005 - 07:46 pm:        Fullpower: How many miles you got on the bearings that you're replacing?   Tim Posted on Sunday, October 02, 2005 - 04:56 pm:        On the XB models, at least on my '03XB9 S and R, the valve stem has NO bearing on where the dot on the tire goes. There is a blue dot on the inside of the rim designating the heavy spot. (OK, it's probably close to the valve stem) The dot on the tire designates its heavv spot and should be mounted 180 degrees from the blue dot. Yep,(or is that yup?) I just pulled out my trusty service manual and thats what it states in bold print under a caution banner. Has something changed? P.S. This should be moved to the appropriate KV section.
