http://www.bestbadroads.com/ Looks like a nice, casual, relaxed event. It starts at the Pickerington Motorcycle Hall of Fame, and covers 150 miles of various "roads". From the website:
quote: At Rock Bottom Adventure Tours we love the unique adventure touring capabilities of “grand-sport” motorcycles (large displacement dual-sports: GS, V-Strom, KLR and DR 650s, etc.). We’ve scoured the countryside to weave together some of the best bad roads you could hope to ride in central Ohio. Our 2005 route (about 150 miles) features a challenging mix of gravel, chip and seal, decaying asphalt and even a little dirt. And, when handy, we’ve included some well-paved twisty roads; because, we like to ride those too! While the route is designed for grand-sports, the ride is open to any quiet street legal motorcycle and any experienced motorcyclist, who isn’t afraid to get a bike dirty. Inaugural Event Special Pricing!!! Only $5.00 per rider** Join Your Fellow Adventure Riders on Sunday, October 2 And Ride The Best Bad Roads!!! Starting Location The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum 13515 Yarmouth Drive, Pickerington, Ohio 43147 On-site Registration: 8:00 to 9:00 AM First rider out at 8:00 AM **detailed route sheet provided
I plan on being there on my 9sx, so all the BMW guys can get a good laugh at a streetbike stuck in the mud. I have ridden a VStrom, and would actually feel more comfortable offroad on my 9sx, so I suspect I can make it anywhere they survive if I am not afraid to scrape a pipe now and then (which I am not). It will be fun to try and make the 9sx look like it is much easier to make do the things I am making it do then it really is, just to annoy the GS folks I'll just use Court's approach, and say "sure, I meant to do that!". If anyone wants to do any guerrilla marketing, I would love to take their Uly on the ride You can play with my 9sx while I am out. I don't think there is going to be a huge turnout, but the organizer sounds like a good guy, and I like the tone of the event. I plan on trying to be there by 8 am, and will be riding in north on I-71 from Lebanon. |

It would be good to meet you reep but alas I have to work that day. HoF is only 1/2 hour from my house. Roads over there, at least the paved ones, are fun, I have taken my M2 on some dirt roads, stone roads, and tar and chip out that way and it was never too bad, mostly like the fireroads in the national forests out west if you've ever been riding that way. Have fun! |
