I do not want to change the topic of overall prices, but I am wanting to know what a 04 Firebolt: red body.amber accents -all stock 1,300 miles is worth. I have wanted an Xb for some time now and may have found a local car lot that has one. They have had for about 2 months and it is begining to cool down, so I would like to know what it is worth and what would be a great deal. Thanks for any imput and info, especially from the dealer himself: Daves |

Aydenxb9 Thanks for the post, I am shocked!!! I still cant believe Harley is doing so good. This expansion of dealers is amazing, but it seems like its all being done on thin ice when you look at the current economy. Since sept 11 im not making what im worth anymore like alot of people. I live in the country , most places around me and in the city are automotive based factories and you know what that means . After sept 11 I thought Harley was going to go in a slump cause of the economy but it was just the opposite. Now with a energy crisis, sluggish econ, poor and rich gap widening the picture just doesnt look good for most people who want a 17 k toy motorcycle in the garage. I am always optimistic of the future but I know that when most people want something nice to play with they want it first class. I havent checked but it would be interesting to see what Polaris sales are or stock price compared to HD. I have a couple of friends who love Harley but will soon settle for a polaris victory. Its a nice bike put them next to a wideglide and check the price tags. Prices maybe close but you can have a nice base model for 9000 that a big 1500 cc cruiser! The real cherry inside is maybe what the resale value of these is going to be, I cant imagine a new Factory customized 17000 polaris is going to be worth 12000 bucks in 15 years. This is all amusing to me. I wana see the Harley bubble pop , I wana buy those bikes, wreck them , fix them sell them what ever I want. What if the "cycle" changes? More and more people keep buying bikes.......should , but what bikes? Lets exclude the jap bike choice and look at what Polaris is doing, what about Triump and Buell, heheheh I need a laugh .....what about Indian? Who did I miss oh what about the Custom bike builder or skilled average joe mechanic , hes renting a vacant garage and hangs up a sign , gets custom chrome, drag specialties , v twin to sell him parts cheap. Builds a bad to the bone chopper for 10000 and sells it for 20000........and of course we have the orange county chopper wana bees that daddy is funding for who knows how much longer. It is just amazing to hear that Harley is pushing for all of this expansion. I hope it works , whatever these bikes turn into in another 50 years its this American company I want to survive. Ill be riding them no matter what like we all do but if its like sailing on a crystal ship , Maybe I should build my own. (Message edited by mmmi_grad on September 29, 2005) |

We are ahead of last year in sales of HDs. Still selling for MSRP. The used market has come into line, with used bikes being less than new bikes. I see the bigger production numbers as a huge advantage. How many people in this day and age are going to wait 2 years for their new bike like was going on just a few short years ago. HD lost a lot of sales due to the "no way am I going to wait" customers. They went out and bought other stuff. Now, those same people know they can walk in and ride off on the new bike they always wanted and still want. Some dealers are going to suffer. Small dealers that only sold as many bikes because no one else had them in stock, built bigger stores than their market would normally support. Got big heads, I can do no wrong attitudes. Provided sub level service. The dealers that screwed people with the over MSRP games( people remember being screwed for a long time) Dealers that have lazy, used to being order takers salespeople will suffer the most if they don't get some new help. I agree, the LAST thing HD should do is give more dealerships to car people. I have been saying this for years. The last thing they should want is to turn the motorcycle business into the car business. I have done both and I know what I'm talking about. HD loses out on a lot of people that would/could be quality dealers with their high net worth numbers to be considered for a dealership. If I had the money it takes to get a HD dealership the last thing I'd be doing is buying a business. I'd be retired and have time to ride. Selling dealerships only to people that are already rich just doesn't make sense to me. It would seem to make more sense to sell them to people that know the business, customers and are hungry. But what do I know? MMMMI You want the bubble to pop but you want HD to survive another 50 years. Isn't that wanting two different things? Sjh, That bike, with a clean title should be worth about 7500-8500 good luck, I hope you get it. Or of course, you could always come to Wisconsin and get one. |

Just in case it hasn't been mentioned - the XB9R was 9,995 MSRP when it was introduced. so it's now 1,100 bucks under intro price. Not too shabby, and quite the bargain as far as I'm concerned. |

When this real estate bubble bursts, as even Greenspan thinks will happen, prices on everything (but gas, natural gas, and heating oil) will come down. |

"When this real estate bubble bursts, as even Greenspan thinks will happen,..." Not all real estate markets are 'bubbling' and many will continue growing, maybe not at the present pace but real estate investments will continue to appreciate. Some segments of the real estate market will feel any market adjustments more than others. I haven't seen any sign of any price decreases(seasonal leveling?) locally(perhaps our local market has been priced lower than comparable markets in comparable cities?) and there is still a good supply of money at lower interest rates in the lending markets for home buyers. From my limited experience, the real estate market, nationwide, is affected more by regional situations than federal interference. Real estate investors are some of the most financially creative folks I've ever worked with. Keep in mind that there have been some huge profits taken by savvy investor/developers who were able to create a demand with marketing and their abilities to 'read' local trends and react quickly. Home Depot and Lowes are two business' in mind that have grown almost exponentially as a result of real estate development. I'm not sure that correlating the real estate market with energy prices is where you want to go. Again, from my experience, any increase in energy prices will be met with an increase in real estate activity bringing products, producers and consumers closer together. Energy efficiency! If it will cost more to move or produce a product because of energy pricing, the next move will likely be to obtain goods to produce the product closer to market---which will make real estate nearer the market place and manufacturing facility increase in value... I take Chairman Greenspan with a grain of salt...he has an agenda but has done a remarkable job of poking, prodding and tuning for American business enterprises. |

Its going to get much worse for the american V-twin. New emission laws are really going to effect the design of the bike. I think next year custom bike builder will only be allowed to build 24 bikes per year or they have to have EPA testing. Normal people will only be allowed ONE custom bike build per lifetime, under new EPA laws. So those that have an older frame with a title, VALUE VALUE. BTW I'd rather buy a brand new 1998 S1w than a 2005 xb12 --even at the same price. Just upgrade the heads and leave it all the same! |

I was under the impression that the current Buell V-Twin will pass the upcoming 2008 EPA standards in California as is? I sure don't feel sorry for a chopper builder selling bikes for 6 figure prices having to pass an emissions test. |

"Normal people will only be allowed ONE custom bike build per lifetime, under new EPA laws. " They're going to have to go after custom car and hot rod builders as well. And motor home builders. And experimental aircraft builders. And boat builders. And a whole slew of other groups. I expect this to show up on snopes.com one day. |

whats really pathetic is that the reality of all this epa stuff that is going on is basically without starting a whole new topic .....in the cause of justifing someones way of getting a paycheck. Nevermind the total sum of said machines burning gas a bit outside of automobile regulations. Dont even think of an average comparison of actuall operation either..........lets just pretend that all of them do 15000 miles a year!!!!!!!! Hilarious. On perfect streets......ok i quit. |

Chainsaw you remind me of something. Isnt the motorcycle supposed to save cali and othe heavy populated places. This good idea and basis for all of us willing to pursue seems to be on misunderstood by the wacko epa. Think of asian places in the world where the moped or motorcycle is so much a part of everyday travel?????????????????? |
