Guys- I just got back from 3 weeks in Gulfport, MS. I work for the Navy and spent three weeks helping assess the damage at the Sea Bee base in Gulfport and the Naval Station in Pascagoula.

If you're riding this one out, make sure you are definitely on HIGH ground and away from the water. Lots of homes got flooded in Mississippi that were well out of the normal flood plane. Pretty much everything for 3 blocks back from the Gulf for a distance of ~80 miles is wiped out. The destruction is absolutely incredible.

If you've got time, make sure you have plenty of gas (may be a LONG time before you can get more), plenty of water, and food.

Good luck to all of you.

thanks for the good juju, all. still here with minimal effects. not as much rain as expected here, a few limbs down, community water supply not working and max wind at my house-55knots. will be able to make a better observation after daylight. storm bands still coming through, though. hope everyone else is doing ok

Well, we dodged the bullet in Houston! Not much rain at all, winds gusted up around 50 kts, lots of limbs down, a few trees and some rotten fences blew over, but otherwise not much damage. Lost electric power about 1:30 this morning, it came back on at 6 this evening.

All's well that ends well. Hope the folks in Beaumont are OK.

Hi Yall May God bless all those who have volunteered to help us in this desparate situation. Thanks. I have been without phone service since Katrina. My house was spared, except for some siding and a few shingles. I haven't heard from Wheelsleaning. I think his area was flooded. I'm in Philly working on our company's data-processing recovery. I thought I saw a silver ST go pass my hotel at 1301 Race St. one evening. I'm in the Hampton, room 1105. Thanks again to all those lending their assistance. Those MREs are pretty good. Gotta go, later.

Hey Prez,
We gotta pretty good group here in Austin, among them a helicopter pilot and a helicopter mechanic (whose parents also own a bike shop and used to campaign an S2 drag bike!) My buddy Blazin' Shane rides an S1 and an X1 and lives in San Marcos. Several Buell-worthies in San Antonio, too. E-mail me and I'll give you all the skinny on the local area...

We left on Wednesday at 5pm 1 hour before they were to close the roads in Lake Jackson, Hey Lucas I'm from Houma now living in Texas. My mother said there is worse flooding in lower Terrebonne Parish than with Katrina. How many took their bike along. I did, and saw another on I-10 on Wed night with 2 Buells in the back of his truck. We stayed at South Llano State Park in Junction. They have some great roads around there. May be I can convince the wife to move there. ; ) By the way Lake Jackson didn't have much in the way of dammage. They said the power went out but not where I live. We were very lucky. If that thing hit Matagorda like first predicted Lake Jackson would have been gone.

Jay,

Rita decided not to mess with Kilgore too much. We lost power for a few hours Saturday morning, had rain and some wind from Friday evening through Saturday night and that was about it. Neighbor's had a big limb take out their utilitiy lines. I actually saw it come down as I was outside taking it all in waiting for the Bad Weather Border Collie to finish his business. : ) Rita turned right and spared us all the rain we were expecting. I'd be surprised if we got more than two inches of rain out of the whole deal.

As of last night Houston got 1.6 in of rain from Rita. A big big big bullet was dodged.

The canals in the lower part of the parish failed which lead to the flooding.
