Just got the new Motorcycle Consumer News in the mail. For those of you who don't know about this magazine, it's paid for by subscription $$ only - so there are no advertisers that needs catering to. The very short version: They *really* liked the Uly. So much that they have asked to have one for long term testing. " ... once you get the hang of it, you realize that, like a track bike the Ulysses is always ready to tighten your line in a corner if need be .... This sort of handling makes the bike a very engaging partner on a twisty road". "Rarely has a new bike made so many friends around our offices, and we have already asked to have one as a long term project". "My Yamaha FZ1 had just been ridden away in the hands of it's new owner .... Studying the Buell in front of me while I pondered my next purchase .... I called Harley in the morning". Granted there were a few things they's like to see fixed/changed, but overall a very positive review. You'll need to buy the mag to read the entire article. Or subscribe - it's well worth the $$. I'm currently a subscriber, but I'm a bit torn as I seem to notice a fair amount of irresponsible "reporting" and even outright BS in some of the articles. They do a fair job of rating bikes objectively though. | ||

In the last few years, some one-sided "I like this gadget" reporting has snug into MCN. Not as good as their full-on tests. And, granted the MC design, Medical Motorcycling and the Psych columns need to be read and taken in with some perspective. Going as far as calling it irresponsible reporting ... I don't entirely agree. I think the majority of the MCN content is very well written and thought provoking. They have strayed a bit from the previous power bike content from when Lee Parks was editor. But I still think MCN is a very well worth subscription. And given their position as a subscriber-paid-only magazine they have some unique opportunities to take on topics that other magazines may have to avoid due to sponsor $$ etc. And I think they for the most part take good advantage of those opportunities. Did you read their conclusion concerning the accident rates for the Rider's Edge versus other MSF courses? That was horribly irresponsible in my view. I bet you can guess why too if you read it. | ||
