So I've begun to feel empathy for those who have made the shibbolith of Buell inferiority a solid part of their everyday reality. We've had the Bike review that caused such an uproar on many boards, an endless succession of extremely positive reviews on the Ulysses, resulting in record dealer orders and so far, record sales, and now the current comparo victory on the MO site. It must be getting difficult to maintain, and attempting to correlate all of that to what they 'know' to be true is surely causing unhealthy stress levels in some. I figured that help for these people wasn't long in coming. The latest issue of Motorcyclist was about due and we all know that Boehm and Co. have never met a Buell they didn't hate. I wasn't surprised that Boehm was not present at the Denver preview, so the fact there was nothing about riding the Uly in the last issue was not too shocking. I was in fact expecting them to go all out and do a full boat comparo of the Uly against the KTM, BMW, V-Strom, and Multistrada, so when it came in last it would be all the way down in fifth place, just to rub it in a bit more. I thought that I could then recommend the article to those who have suffered from the severe bending of motorcycling reality in recent months, a balm for the nerves, as it were. But my new issue arrived today, and I looked in vain for any mention at all of the Uly. Over two months after the intro it appears that to Boehm and Co. the bike simply doesn't exist. Perhaps they are trying to find something suitably bad to say about it? They used to use the clutch and shifting action as a club to beat on them with, but with those all new and much improved this year, they will have to find something else. They are creative, I'm sure they will find something. But how long will we have to wait? Come on Mitch! There are people out here that desperately need a nice sour, scathing review of this upstart adventure bike to restore their sense of well being! They are counting on you, so don't let them down. Find a way to break one of those new belts, rip that low-hanging muffler off on a large rock, crash one and rip a hole right through the gas-bearing frame, turning the bike into a flaming torch! You guys are the last guardians of the status quo, the world needs you now! On the other hand, they did have short reviews, along with yummy photos, of the new Brutale 910 and the Moto Morini Corsario 1200. Now those are two bikes I would take over the Lightning Long in a heartbeat, in a perfect world. That is, in a world where the staggering price and the total lack of dealer support didn't matter. I disagreed with Mr. Brown's pan of the 910. He said he liked the old 750 better because it revved better, though the 910 made much better torque. Not me, I'll take torque over revs any day. Boehm is a complete moron. His writing has caused Motorcyclist subscribers to cancel their subscriptions. Ironically, his dislike of the XB12 actually increased my interest in the bike. But I will happily eat my words if the Uly somehow makes it through his thick bone head and makes a favorable impression... |

The current issue of Motorcycle Consumer News gives the Uley a ver good review. They did menton that the dyno showed 82 hp, a bit low from the claimed 101 hp. However they rode the bike for 1400 miles liked the seat alot and the riding positon and power etc. I have high regard for MCN since they are a black and white mag with no adds, so no fear of losing a customer with a less than glowing review. They even asked for one as a long term test bike. So... |

I subscribe to Motorcyclist and it is an ok magazine. They have been at "war" lately over the C1 bike (another American cycle) and some of the design ideas. They love European and Asian bikes and so do many of their readers. What are you going to do? Personally, it is a good counter-balance for me considering the amount of time I spend reading Badweb. There are alot more bikes in this world then Just Buell... (of course non of them are as cool as my M2!) |

You spelled Boehms name wrong. It should be Mitch "Honda" Boehm. He is one of the reasons I never renewed my subscription. It's not b/c he bashes Buell. It's b/c I think he's a terrible journalist. |

I disagreed with Mr. Brown's pan of the 910. He said he liked the old 750 better because it revved better, though the 910 made much better torque. Not me, I'll take torque over revs any day. In the case of the Brutale 750 v 910 I've read just about everything I can get my hands on and it seems that no matter where I look everyone who's reporting on them seems to be saying the same thing. The 750 is a real screamer all the way to 14500rpm and this is what makes the 750 Brutale such a fantastic and involving ride. I'll reserve judgment on the 910 until I've ridden one but I am looking forward to seeing for myself which one suits me best. The reports suggest the more torqued 910 isn't as wild as the 750 making it more friendly. Not sure I like the sound of that. Rocket |

And I was on the verge of renewing my long-expired sub to their second rate mag. I'll put the saved subscription money into 93 octane for my trouble free X1 milli and blow it out the pipe! The MCN article, like everything they write, was an honest real world accounting of the many positives and few negatives of a bike whose effect on the motorcycling world will not be fully realized for several years. Or until the competition has a chance to reverse-engineer the thing. |
