Fellow Buell Enthusiasts and BadWeBrs, Please, please help us help ourselves by once and for all beginning today posting ALL tech issues/topics/questions including product discussions, maintenance issues, troubleshooting issues, anything and everything to do with stuff on a Buell motorcycle or the apparel and components we use when we ride or the adjustments and settings used... please post anything that fits into one of the KV topics to that appropriate KV topic. Please. Please. I'm begging here. This board and the other model specific boards except for the Thumper Forum are a complete mess, a disorganized disaster. Please help us get the place back in order. Please. I know it takes a bit of effort. I know at first your tech posts may go ignored. I have a solution for that too, a simple noteboard in each model specific board to let you plea for help and post a link to your KV thread if needed. Right now I'm going to move all muffler related topics to the Knowledge Vault's "Exhaust..." topic. If you see someone posting a thread to the Quick Board, or the XBoard, or the BB&D board, that should be in the KV, PLEASE help me out and give them a gentle reminder. If we ALL start using the KV, it will become once again a very useful and busy part of the board. right now I count well over half of the topics in the Quick Board and XBoard that should reside in an applicable KV topic. I'll be moving them there, so if you cannot find your thread, check the KV. Or do a search by author for your username for the last couple days. That's another thing. The search utility on this board is lightning fast compared to others. Please take advantage of it. It allows you to combine the various options thus allowing you to narrow down your searches quite efficiently. If you are not taking advantage of the "New Messages" search option, you are missing out on the easiest way to browse this site. Please check it out if you have not yet tried it. Of course the first time will not do much. But after that it will work like thunder. Thanks in advance for your help and understanding, Blake and also on behalf of all the BadWeB Custodians. |

Can you please give a few examples of what should appear in a board like the XBoard? |

Blake, Since I have never administrated on a board I have no idea how time consuming this would be. I think people would be more inclined to use the KV instead of posting all over the place if the KV was organized by Buell type, XB drivetrain, Tuber drivetrain ect... I think a lot of people, including newbies, find the KV a little intimidating. just my 2p. |

i'm not sure if anyone else has requested this or not. would it be possible to give the Uly its own board. in my mind i feel that it is different enough from the xbr and xbs that it could benefit from having its own area similar to what has been done for the blast. like i said i'm not sure if its been brought up before. maybe there are others that feel the same as me. i'll also try and use the KV more. i know i'm bad for not looking there first before i post. |

With the search function, what difference does it make where the information is located? |

so people who have the answer to a new question can jump in, scan the topics and pick out a category they are familiar with rather than wade through stuff they have no input for. |

"With the search function, what difference does it make where the information is located?" Doing it as Blake has requested reduces the number of places that have to be searched and should also reduce the number of non relevant hits that a search produces. Including the year and model will allow you to pull info by model, that is a great idea. And it also allows topical browsing of categories of information. As it is now, almost anything about almost anything could be found almost anywhere. Blake's request is very logical and reasonable. I'm will to do anything logical and reasonable to make his job easier. He'll probably spend some of the time he saves making the board better. No anger here, just my answer to the question. Jack |

"Can you please give a few examples of what should appear in a board like the XBoard?" Take a look at the ones that are still there. Plenty of stuff for XBr's to discuss outside of the KV. It was getting to the point that the XBoard would see a hundred new topics every few days. That won't be the case if the tech and info type stuff is distributed among the 38 topics comprising the KV. That will allow topics in the XBoard and Quick Board to remain active a lot longer, avoiding the archiving that currently pulls them from view with only a day or two of inactivity. The same will be true of the topics in the KV too. Please help. Okay? |

I'm confused on how to start a new thread in some of the KV topics. The Start New Thread link seems to be missing in a number of the KV topics. The KV topic may be closed to new posts so what does one do? I'm not trying to be a complainer. BadWeb seems to be becoming a victim of it's own success. As a network administrator I can sympathize with the task of trying to organize it. It's like trying to change the oil and filter on your bike while doing 70 mph on the freeway. It's a difficult thing to do! |

Thanks Pa! John, My bad. I thought I had activated the "Start New Thread" feature on all KV topics, but I missed some. Should be good to go now. If you don't see the "start new thread" link at the top of the page, there will always be one located at the bottom of the subtopics listing. We'll get one put up top too asap. The folks at Discus acutually provided some custom script to allow us to recover the profiles. Thanks for the kind words. |

A good way to get the big picture is to go to the Topics page, them click on Tree View at the bottom. That shows you all the major categories in a "folder" like view. Then, clicking the "+" sign in front of each folder will expand to show your the subcategories of info available. Click on anything of interest to dig in further and you can back out to get back to the tree view. Have you tried the Search feature using the registered users option? If not, you're missing the easiest way to catch up once a day or so. You'll all the posts that are new since your last visit. Jack |

On Mac using Safari, I'm using what's called "Tabbed Browsing". Basically, using a keyboard command and clicking a link, will open that link in a new tab in your current window. That way I can retain the Tree View in one window, and open threads of interest in other tabs - then read and close the tab. Makes for very easy browsing. Don't know if there is a similar feature in Windows. I know you can "open link in new window", but the tabs makes it easier to manage many open links. Henrik |

Mozilla Firefox can do exactly that! Been doing it that way for years. Mozilla also has Linux and Mac ports that will do it as well. |

I read/scan just like Henrik in Safari on Mac, tabs rock. I do find the KV a little difficult but will do my best to help get organized. M2Me that analogy was classic! Man is that the truth. I still think new users are confused by the big XB Board or whatever.. they see their make, and go post. Could the KV be the first level then the makes/models under that? I really like the organization of major components/areas of bike but the mix of older tuber info gets confusing if you're an XB guy. Let's face it, tubers are 'old school' at this stage and should be separate from XB info, right? please take no offense tube-frame owners and Blake, I know how difficult this stuff is so my hats off to you for running THE Buell board on the web. This place solidified my purchase last Nov. |
