Anyone else think this is a good idea? Anyone who puts 100,000 miles on a bike, regardless of the brand, is eligable. Maybe something as simple as a registry and a patch or a pin. A website and domain name would be easy enough to create.

Just thinking out loud.

That sounds cool, I'd buy one. What about another for 200,000. I'm not too far away, well about 50 or 60 thousand miles away give or take. Would the $ go to a fund' for the family?

I'm not thinking as a money maker. I'd want it to be as close to free as possible. Just a way for a name and spirit to live on.

Good thinking.

Is this a 100,000 mile starting now or if you are like Tramp and his friend "Flash in the Pan" who have 200,000+ and 160,000+ respectively ALREADY on their "sleds"? I know I have got a long way to go being as I have only 240 miles on my Brand New 2006 Buell XB12Ss "well hung"

a really cool memorial is a blood drive, done at many locations by many badwebbers in his name.
various blood banks will do most of the legwork for you in your area.
t-shirt to all who donate a pint, etc., try to get more badwebbers running one (it's SO easy) in their resepctive areas every year, maybe on his birthday. big national "blood run" in his honour, with badweb and some of their sponsors as run sponsors, listed on the back of the shirt.

S2 has 2,900 miles in the back of the car, not recorded toward actual mileage.

Blood Run would kick a*s.
especially nationally. hand out pins for farthest travelled TO blood run, most blood donated in his name over a year, etc.
A hells angel charter in the bay area does this annually and is the single largest blood donor to the stanford university blood center. they do it in the name of a deceased brother.

You are all invited to pursue other options. I'm just seeing what the general consensus is to the 100,000 mile club idea.

the big mile idea seems a bit "limiting" for honouring a man's name. it implies that fewer miles means less support or admiration for his honour. giving something to a good cause, such as our constantly low blood supply, which we motorcyclists are prone to 'dip into' from time-to-time.

The 100k is not "*.swinging". It is a fit way of honoring a man who was a real practitioner of motorcycling in every respect.

I understand completely....It's just abit "limiting", being there aren't a whole bunch of 100k-ers out there. most of the population can donate a quart, far fewer slap a hundred K on their sleds, plus the "giving of life" aspect is a he*l of a tribute to a lost brother. like i said, maybe combine a bunch of ideas, and not just limit it to an exclusive club of 100K milers.

If you did know him personally, I apologize in advance for questioning your input regarding their idea/s.

the more we can do the better.....viks idea was a patch, and I think Gordon would think that was cool, and a nice way to remember him.

not to stop there, if someone wants to do something else, like a blood drive, that is great. I normally give blood, but would also do that in addition to the 100,000 miles.

I know how proud gordon was with the 100,000 miles and to proudly wear a patch would be great. I have 40,000 more miles,so I need to get in some riding....thanks, rex

CJxb said: "If you did know him personally, I apologize in advance for questioning your input regarding their idea/s."
so, being that I did NOT know him personally, it's OK to question my input?

Here's my take: I've lost friends, we all have.
If I were posting an idea, on a website frequented by many friends of my decedent comrade, and someone who did NOT know him (personally) were to add a meaningful thoughtful, and intelligent suggestion to commemorate the decedent's life and memory, I'd greet it for what it is. I would NOT question the thoughtful suggestor's absence of personal relationship with the decedent. that's inappropriate and tasteless. CJ, if you were to suggest an idea for memorializing a lost friend of mine, I'd welcome the thoughtfulness, I can assure you. I'd also give it serious consideration, were it a good idea. (and a national blood drive is NOT?) I won't go further into this on this thread, as it's an extremely noble cause that eeek is championing, and this is beginning to feel like a hijack.
as you wwere, and please,
excuse my out-of-line idea of a national blood drive to honour the name of a fallen brother.

Vik, I'm with you on the 100K club. I acquired over a 150K miles in HOG's Mileage Merit program but not all on one bike. The mileage patch is the only thing I kept from my Harley days. Putting that many miles on one bike would be a true test for me seeing as how I'm usually bored with my scooters in their second or third year. It means I'd have to own one for a while longer but the challenge would be more rewarding to do in the honor of Gordon instead of just doing it.

The way I see it, we could do both, right?

Set the webiste up, have an area for the 100,000 mile club and have an area for a blood drive (I truly believe in blood drives. I have given 1.5 gallons and that's between getting tattoos).

As Tramp said, 100,000 mile club is very limiting. I, personally, have never put more than 30,000 miles on a bike. It's tough to do and I think it really hits home what Gordon accomplished.

It would also be nice to have something that more people could participate in. That's where the blood drive could come in.

Here's more of me thinking out loud. A lot of people have expressed interest in a Gordon Patch. Cool, lets make one that's available to anyone. Then, let's have banner, for a lack of a better term, for 100,000 miles. Maybe another banner for 1 gallon of blood?

Tramp,

Please don't take my post as a rebuke. More like an explaination. A blood drive is a winner as well. Good eye, Vik and Tramp.

A blood drive might actually save someone's life someday, too.

I say we do both. Keep thinking out loud, Vik.

Let's keep talking about Gordon and what we should do. The lines are open...

i don't take it that way, thanks, jon. it was a great point, as MY post seemed judgemental prior to the revision. i appreciate the heads-up, which can be kind of touchy when it's in reference to a paased friend. spidey's offer of a website makes excellent sense, too, as more people can pledge something through it, even if they're not physically present at an event for gordon's memory.

What I'm trying to establish is something that isn't easy. Gordon took on a lot of challenges and didn't back down when things got tough. I think that would be a good way for his memory to live on.

100,000 miles is a tough goal. 1 gallon of blood is more obtainable; but, still takes some dedication and if you only make it to 1 pint, you've still done something good. I like it.

Well I will probably get to 100k(have 75k on the S-2 now) before the gallon as they look down on us inked folks as "tainted"--sure is old fashioned.Comes from the days tattoos were done in back alleys without an autoclave, rubber gloves, and disposable needles----oh well. And I used to give blood every 8 weeks for eons.

Fireman - don't feel left out by yourself. Being a "durn furner" I have trouble (read impossible) giving blood as well. Due to ... wait for it ... Mad Cow disease in Great Britain in the 80's. Hmmm.

Anyway. Many good suggestions. Thanks

could we consider 50k. I know he is the 100k king but maybe every 50k. Maybe an initial patch with his name and all that or whatever and then an additional bar or stripe for every additional 50k.
Just a thought for those that find the 100k mark to hard meet. Honestly the only thing i can see about the 100k mark is that it might take a long time for so many people that it might get forgotten about. You know wha they say," if you don't use it......."

by the way i think its an excellent idea to do this.

yeah, remember that statement when you lose a quart of blood from your roadrash, and you suddenly need some.

as to the 50,000 miles idea- how a bout a mini-rocker for every 10k someone PUTS on their ride? start at, say, 20,000, and have incremental 10k rockers each year, (or some other increment/starting mileage) in his name and honour, toward a 50k and then a 100k mini-rocker?

Sorry, I should have thrown out the joker sign in my previous post. I'm glad that there are people who are able to give blood - luckily I haven't needed any (yet). It takes a better person than I to be able to do that.

I just have this phobia of needles that I can't seem to shake, and the thought of volunteering to get stuck with one makes me fidget in my chair right now. I couldn't even tell you what blood type I am.

:shudder:

The Red Cross calls me every 2 months like clockwork. Not only do I have the privilege of being a universal donor, but I don't have some sort of affliction that 98% of the population has (CMV?...CMT?) so they can use my blood for preemies, lukemia, cancer, and other young critical patients.
Needles or no, it's a great excuse for cutting class early
The blood drive is a great idea!
