Just thought I would share...My Dad and I have always had a thing for "Who's bike is better/faster/etc" I just got my '02 S3T at the end of May, and recently installed the Race Kit. he just got his '03 V-Rod at the same time...changed his gears and something else... We finally rode together on Friday (on way home from work)...Left him on the start...then as we are cruising down teh FWY...he looks over, smiles, downshifts and starts to leave....I match his downshift and catch and leave.... Just thougth i would share. He still has me in the car department...his Corvette beats my Expedition.... |

I had a VRod, and it felt faster then my XB9SX. Wind out the gears, all the way to red, and you are in for a ride! 6k-9k rpm is where the VRod really moves. |

"left him on the start" i gotta say either your dad cant ride, or your lyin..... the vrod will spank any buell off the line....... well except for the g2 buells..... lol....... but anyhow, your s3t had better be built pretty damn good and have alot more mods than just a race kit if your pulling away on the freeway....... the vrod has 100+ hp at the wheel stock.... your s3 (stock) is in the 70s |

phat_j - I think the v-rod is pushing an extra 100-150 pounds though, maybe more. |

It's all about power/weight ratio, and gearing. Just like, a Formula 1 car, and a stock car, have reasonably the same hp (750ish for stock car, 800ish for Formula 1). But the weight, gearing, and delivery makes all the difference in the world. |

An '02 S3 with RWHP in the 70's? Those bikes pull in the mid '80's, in the '90's sometimes. See the www.motorcycle.com and www.motorcyclist.com dyno data. Both in the '90's. |

At the last dyno drags, a new Vrod had 106HP at the rear wheel, vs my race kitted '98 S3T's 94HP IIRC. The Vrods That I've always raced got me off the line. It's easier to launch a Vrod than the S3T. But it doesn't take long to catch 'em I really enjoyed my test ride of the Vrod street rod. LOVE that motor. But you can tell it's a heavy bike under ya. |

Oh come on, no definitive conclusions can be made from this single anecdotal scenario - not about the bikes and not about the riders. Essthreetee mentions modifications to both bikes, race kit on the S3T, gearing and others on the Vrod. We don't know all of the mods, whether they were smart or otherwise, whether they work well together or otherwise, whether they were made correctly or otherwise. We don't know whether Essthreetee weighs 105 pounds and his dad weighs 325, or vice versa. We don't know their riding skills, the road they were on (was it level, uphill, downhill, straight, twisty, etc.),or anything else necessary to a full understanding. In short, the variables are largely unknown to us and we can therefore make no sound conclusions. |

i'll take a stock v-rod directly off the showroom floor with my 300lb azz in the saddle and put a 100 lb rider on my 100+ hp s2 and in the 1/8th mile, i'll eat him alive.... without length modifications, buells just dont launch worth crap.... now on the other hand, i've taken a vrod and dumped the clutch at 8k rpm from a dead stop and what happens? the front wheel lifts about 6 inches and launches harder than a s3 could only dream of.... now as far as 90+ hp "stock" (read my words) s3 i seriously doubt it.... that is one very happy dyno... i've done many race kits on buells (mostly x1's) and after they are usualy in the high 80s |

Was just at the Truett/Osborn 37th annual harley bike drags and saw some stock v-rods getting beat by stock buells. I would say with the weight and h/p difference between the 2 bikes{about 175 lbs} the determining factor would be rider ability. My friends x-1 which has a race kit beat 3 v-rods in a row. This is 1/4 mile racing. I wouldn't race mine in the 1/4 as I'm not that good at launching it. My other friend was riding a zx9 kawasaki and beating zx10s all day. He is very good rider. Phat, I doubt your stock v-rod with a 300 lb rider would beat my friend on his x-1 in the 1/4 with his 160 lb body. He would have over 300 lb weight edge. For the extra 15 or twenty h/p that doesn't make sense. |

I have 3 bikes 1. 2001X1 2. 2004XB12R 3. 2004 V-Rod My favorite ride for the pure fun is my X1 lighting. All 3 are 100% stock but to roll them on from 20 to 30 mph The V-Rod will eat both Buells a live only my personal exp. |

In my experience... a rolling start from any speed and my XB12R and a couple V-Rods are VERY even. The XB12R seems to pull away slightly after 80. Off the line... The V-Rod will SMOKE any stock Buell due to the wheel base. |

Well me and my co worker raced. I have a 03 xb9r with PC3 with sensor(almost dyno tuned), Force exhaust, Race ecm, Air filter, de-snorkeled, 12 air box. He has a stock 06 Night rod. Pushes about 10 more hp then a vrod. On a 5th gear roll we are side by side then he will pull me a little (very little) Now when we down shifted to 4th I pulled hard and shifted into 5th he caught up again. The lowest speed we go to was 70mph so everything we ran was top end. FOR NOW. I was very impressed with the Vrod |

A friend of mine who has an 03 V-rod, sat in on mine, he rode it around for about 30 seconds and didn't want to be on it anymore, said it was way too fast, from 10mph to about 90 I have smoked most everything I have come across, not to great at the launches though. Mine is well moded though, at least in my own mind |

V-rods are fast enough in a straight line but what happens when the road turns? JT |

It's all over but the crying. I have rode with V-rods and they can keep up fine until the first curve. The first time a V-rod followed me through a curve I though the guy was going to wreck. The sad thing is I slowed down so he would not push the bike, but I did not slow down enough. To add insult to injury, I was on the Nighthawk. |

I rode a StreetRod just recently and came away very impressed. It handles pretty good for a cruiser and I was thrilled by the top end rush. I could see how a Buell might get the jump on one in a roll-on, but not at the strip. |

I don't know...all I know is what I saw...maybe dad did't get on it from the take off...maybe I got on it BETTER...Maybe he didn't want to go any faster...All I know is that I DID leave him off the line...He DID get a jump on me when he down shifted, but I DID catch him and then leave... I have ridden my Dad's V-Rod and My Mom's Screamin Eagle V-Rod...while they are nice, I will take my S3T ANYDAY...And twice TODAY!!!!! I freakin LOVE my bike... |

It is funny how ones perceptions are changed when on different bikes. I swear the new Uly is not as fast as my old M2 and except for the can she was stock. That height has a weird effect on your perceptions. The lower you are the faster it seems you are going. The higher up you are the slower it seems you go. Thats why when you jump off a building it seems like you are falling really slow until the ground is about 50 ft under you HA HA. |

for sakes it a damn drag between his DAD (probably not a pro drag racer) and him....(more than likely not a pro either). He didn't come out and say it kicks the crap out of any and all V-rods with any rider on it did he? |

"..the v-rod had one too." Well then that made it a fair race. In the photo it looks like the V-Rod beat the Buell on reaction time. Jack |
