I'm looking at doing a track day or two this year and need a pair of track gloves. Has anyone tried the Buell asphalt glove? What gloves is everyone wearing to do track days? | ||

I would stay away from the Buell gloves for track days. They just aren't built very strong. I would recommend one of the higher end Joe Rocket, AGV or Alpinestar gloves. Or if you have some extra money use it on a pair of Helds. If the gloves cost under $75 you probably have not spend enough. | ||

Carefull with the cost/viability ratio there, not always an accurate measurement. Sometimes high costs simply means "boutique", sometimes not, sometimes both. I'll have to check out the asphalt gloves and see how they seem. | ||

Everybody who has ever fallen off a bicycle, as a kid, knows what the first reaction is....hands down to break the fall. Scrimp on gloves at your own peril. Plan on spending in the neighborhood of $100, you may later be patting yourself on the back with a ragged, yey intact, glove. I wouldn't buy Buell gloves unless something has changed. | ||

I was thinking of getting the Held ninja glove. I dont have a whole lot of money to spend on gloves but they seem like a good glove from what I have seen. Any comments on thoses gloves? | ||

I just bought a pair of Alpinestars GP Pro gloves. They're very sturdy, downright stiff when new. My hands were actually a bit sore from wearing them the first time. Now they're nicely broken in and are quite comfortable. They seem to offer substantial protection. Hopefully I won't get the chance to crash test them, but if I do I'll post here. It's worth noting that they're sized quite small compared to the Joe Rocket gloves I'm used to. With JR I'm between medium and large, with the A-star gloves the large size is snug. I don't have any personal experience with Held gloves, but newenough.com carries them. Mike L. '04 XB12R | ||

I've crash tested a couple of pairs of Held gloves. Lesser quality gloves would have left me with bashed in and ground down knuckles on both hands after my last crash at VIR. I'm a firm believer in Held quality. That said, Helimot used to be the sole importer/distributer of Held gloves. Helimot however refused to import/sell the Held models that were manufactured overseas and not in Germany. Because of that, Held dropped the contract and went with this new distributer. So now there is no way to know which gloves are made in Germany and which are made overseas. My first pair of Helds were the Profi #2277. My last pair were the Galaxy #2935. Both pairs bought from Helimot, so these models were, at least at that time, made in Germany. Both pairs have been crash tested and did very well. And before someone starts out on the whole "Global Economy" etc. crusade. I have no problem with where stuff is manufactured. However, Helimot is known for their dedication to quality gear, so I take their opinion as just a point of reference. Henrik | ||

Lee Parks (writer of Total Control) also very eloquently argued the case for Held gloves at an open house at a dealership in San Diego. He caught some of the local kids buying gloves based on looks and gave them an education. I found him very persuasive | ||

Good endorsement as Lee had his own line of gloves. Don't know if he is still in the biz, but was not too long ago. | ||

I ended up getting a pair of held gloves. There not the high priced ones. There the best gloves I've got so far, I love them. I'll try them on the track in a few weeks, hopefully I wont test them out, I like them to much. |
