Factory Recommended Preload and Damping Settings for Showa shocks through model year 2002: Preload Settings Check shock preload by measuring your shock's length from shock eye to shock eye with full rider/luggage weight applied while in riding position/configuration. New Showa Shocks 2001 and 2002 Showa shocks or recall replacement Showas that included a revised front shock mount for the shorter shock length. These shocks will be less than 15.5 inches or 390 mm long (eye to eye) in their fully retracted (unloaded) condition. All except M2L: 15.2 to 15.5 inches (386 to 394 mm) shock eye to shock eye M2L: 15.6 to 15.9 inches shock eye to shock eye. Early Recall/Replacement Showa Shocks These were the first recall can shocks replacing the recalled WP (exposed spring) shocks; they required no new front mount, and will be longer than 16 inches or 400 mm (eye to eye) in their fully retracted (unloaded) condition. S1/S1W/M2/X1: 17 to 17.4 inches shock eye to shock eye S2/S2T/S3/S3T: 16.9 to 17.2 inches shock eye to shock eye Damping Settings New Showa Shocks 2001 and 2002 Showa shocks or recall replacement Showas that included a revised front shock mount for the shorter shock length. Compression Damping (small screw at rear of shock) M2/M2L/S1/S1W/X1 - 2.25 turns out (counterclockwise) from full in (clockwise) S2/S2T/S3/S3T - 2.5 turns out from full in Rebound Damping (small screw on remote reservoir) M2/M2L/S1/S1W/X1 - 1.5 turns out from full in S2/S2T/S3/S3T - 1 turn out from full in Specs from Fuell Vol 1.3 May/June 2001 {NOTE: Buell has not published an "Eye-to-Eye" spec for the original WP Exposed Spring shocks as those shocks are no longer supported. Refer to your owners manual or service manual for recommended WP preload and damping settings. |

Had my recall done and I measured my shock eye to eye at 14.75 took it back to dealer to adjust again. He said he took it out as far as he could it still doesnt measure 15. And your chart says 15.2 to 15.5. What do I do now? |

So if I weigh 50 pounds more than the mechanic isnt that going to make a difference? Shouldnt he be adjusting it with me on the bike? |
