It benefits peak HP performance at high revs, not significantly at low and mid range. |

Knife edging helps fling oil off the flywheels, lightens weight, and other stuff. You can add scrapers, sprayers, and tweak oil flow while you have the cases open. I'm no expert, I've just read and seen a bit. For a track roadracer I'd do it, for a cruiser I wouldn't, for a barhopper pinkslip racer I'd do it (you should have seen the tweaked panhead that was running around the Pacific NorthWest back in the 70's that paid for his club's party funds many times but also spent a bit of time riding in the back of the sag truck as well, fast but finicky). Define your ultimate goals and back into the solution. YMMV |

Isn't one benefit of lightened wheels quicker deceleration? |

Define your ultimate goals and back into the solution 105 hp at the rear wheel, with a motor that will last me 40 - 50 thousand miles Bottom end is this year, top is next year, so i DONT want to have to take th lower end apart twice, so i want to make sure i dont miss anything, or over look a simple procedure, figure here is the best place to ask R |

"Bottom end is this year, top is next year" ???? Seems kinda bass-ackward to me. Won't you have to pull the top off to do the bottom? rt |

The new S&S Buell crankset is knife edged, looks sweet!!Knife edge is supposed to cut through the oil in crankcase better.Run your hand through a bucket of water palm out, then do it with the edge of you hand, much easier---.That is going to make for free HP from less drag at all rpm levels. While you are at it put in an oil scraper ,too. |

Yes, the knife edged crank reduces the amount of oil the crank picks up and slings around, which takes more power proportionately with engine speed. I just had the top end and cams done. You can achieve 105 RWHP with ported/big valved stage-2 T-Storm heads, cams, pistons, and a Mik HSR 42 carb. Shoot, I bet if I put a set of cams cut for top end, I could snag 105 RWHP. Go for 110. Remember Steve Madden's S3? 113RWHP using stock pistons and cylinders? Who does the work makes a BIG difference. You know who the good ones are, right? |

Won't you have to pull the top off to do the bottom Right, as far as being backwards goes, maybe there's a reason, like a cracked case, that needed to be split so i could have i welded, since the case is split, i will dirrct my money toward the bottom end, next year, i will remove the heads, have them sent out, then regasget the jugs, and bolt up the heads, no need to remove the engine from the frame, seems logical to me, but to each his/her own R |
