Here's the timing plug I'm trying to use on my 97 M2. The manual warns against letting the plug face contact the flywheel, but I'd have to be able to screw it in to the knurls to get it to touch. Fully screwed in it's @ 3/16" away from the flywheel and all I see with the timing light is an oily blur. Is this the right plug or is there a longer one available? Thread length + face projection =13/16".

Never had any luck with those. And the timing light has to be really bright. We always either timed it with a light, leaving the plug out, and wiped off the oil mist later, or timed it statically by 'bumping' the rear wheel back and forth to turn the crankshaft. Hope this helps, Dave |

Thanks Dave, trying without the plug may be the best option. My header blocks the view with the plug but I can see the flywheel without it.
