Alright, today I'm going to show you how to replace burned transmission vent hose easy way. As you know a portion of this hose goes close the rear exhaust header and getting hard, fragile and starts leaking. Mine became bad long time ago and now I resided to replace it. But the biggest problem is you need to reach the hose attaching point and you need to drain primary oil, remove primary cover, remove clutch assembly with primary chain, remove starter, probably rotate engine if you really need to clear the way, and only after this you can reach the hose nozzle and replace the old burned hose with fresh one and new hose clamp and then assemble everything back. Hell no! I found the easy way. You need to buy one Barbed Hose Fitting for 3/8" internal diameter hose. Metal fitting is preferable. I bought this https://www.mcmaster.com/2838n54  Buy new transmission hose with 3/8" internal diameter. I bought new stock transmission vent hose for Buell XB part number 62352-94B. If you are really cheap bastard you can reuse the old damaged hose, I will explain this later. Here is my transmission hose on 2009 Buell XB12Scg after 25000 miles. The burned portion is cracked ad hard as stone.  Cut the hose below the burned portion where it is still flexible  The portion above is really rock hard and cracks with no flexing  Trim the remaining portion with sharp knife to maintain good flange  Attach the hose fitting  Attach fresh hose to the fitting. Or if you are really cheap bastard just clean the trimmed off section inside, flip it and attach the good flexible end to the fitting.  I attached new stock hose and it has sharp bent on one end, it helps to rout the hose around the starter far away from the exhaust header.  Secure the hoses on the fitting with zip ties.  Done! No starter removing, no dealing with hose clamps, no engine rotation. Next time you will need to replace the hose just detach the burned hose from the fitting and attach fresh hose! |
