Hello, I have been on this blog on and off for 9 years and have come close to buying an XB on several occasions. I have been off bikes for about 5yrs and I am ready to get another. My last bike was a 2008 Moto Guzzi Griso so I am not unfamiliar with quarky bikes and unpredictable resale values. Anyway, I see plenty of XBs for sale and the prices are all over the place and seem to have little relation to the NADA book values (usually higher)and usually on the higher end of KBB. Has the market changed for these bikes that they are now commanding a higher price (relative, I know)? I dont want to offend sellers with a low ball offer but I also dont want to overpay by thousands of dollars. I am currently considering a 06 ULY and an 05 XB12s - both are listed for about $4.5K, which seems like an honest price for what they are but NADA says they are only worth about $3K retail. I assume insurance will not value either above book price so that worries me. I plan to have full (comp/coll) insurance because it is soooooo cheap at $166 per year! I am having trouble reading the Buell market and determining an approximate value. Has anyone bought or sold an XB recently that can provide accurate data and price points? I tried to find this topic covered but was unable to located a recent thread. |

I am no expert but those prices seem to be high end. Of course reasonable or not may depend on condition and extras. You may get an idea by reviewing the current and past listings in the Buells for sale sections of this site. You can see what is selling, and there are comments on value as well. Plus there have been some threads in the Uly or XB sections in the last year or so. |

Thanks for the response and directing me to that link! I’ve found a few great examples on Craigslist. Seems like 3-5k is the price range. ULYs seem to command the highest price and are the most plentifull. |

In a way, I would not worry about paying over market because Buells are so undervalued, and such great bikes, you are still getting a great bike for the price. But i might be biased. |

i would say location has a part in price.. yankee bikes i been watchin always seem to be higher buell HD and Triumph but i mainly scroll pre 99 pre 84 bikes. Use searchtempest.com and you'll be able to see nationwide prices with a bit of clickin and scrollin...just like anything where major bux are gonna be spent, get 3 "quotes"... |
