Been bugging me for a while now so finally decided to work out a way to do a full oil change on my x1. This could be elsewhere on the badweb so apologies for double ups. I imagine the same method could be adopted for other HD engined bikes. Purchase: 1. 3/8 tee piece 2. Suitable hose clamps 3. Small length of hose 4. Brake line clamp (hose clamp pliers) 5. Plug for hose (similar to oil drain plug) The above cost me less than $30. The mod: 1. Cut oil return line allowing room to put hose clamp pliers on the hose (did mine close to the oil tank near the drain hose) 2. Install tee piece with plug and suitable length of hose to tuck away somewhere. 3. Zip ties to neaten it up. Oil change 1. Drain tank as normal and replace plug. 2. Change or clean filter (I have a servicable one I got from American Sport Bike its awesome) 3. Unplug the oil return line mod you just did and direct into drain pan 4. Clamp return line above tee piece to force oil to flow out your mod. 5. Fill tank right up and start bike. 6. Watch with glee as cruddy oil comes pouring out and eventually goes clean. (You may need to top up oil during this step so stop bike if needed) 7. The rest is obvious. Happy riding |
