After I switch off the bike the fan sometimes comes on, when it does it starts out real fast then slows right down. Runs for a few minutes and shuts off, normal I think except for the slow down part, every few days the fan fuse blows. The PO said something about a fan fuse so I think this has been an issue. Time for a new fan? When the fan fuse blows I get a CEL but no code, goes away after I change the fuse. | ||

Yes I would try to check the current draw on each fan. The fast and slow part is normal. | ||

there is more than 1? I only find one back under the seat, maybe there is a second I just don't know where | ||

I was assuming it was 1125 since there have been some fan issues. What model bike do you have? All the rest are air cooled. | ||

Just one fan on the XB's, under the rear seat. Probably time for a new fan, but if it's getting jammed with a pebble or something you might be able to clean it. It's a bit of work to get out though. | ||

XB, yeah, it looks like a beeach to change, cant figure any other thing to do if it is blowing fuses after an X amount of time. I am going to change ECM shortly, maybe I will do that first just in case and carry some extra fuses | ||

Caught ,red handed, my fan screwing up today. Check engine light was on and the bike seemed to be hot enough to kick the fan on. Pulled up my seat, heat gunned the rear cylinder and it was 300 f, no fan, I noticed some oil near the fan so I stuck a rag down there to wipe it up and just barely touched the fan blade and it very, very slowly started spinning. It took at least a minute to spool up to speed,so I took that as a sign to buy a new fan. Thanks Lance! Looks like an hour job to change it, shock needs to come out? | ||

You are gonna want to take care of that leak otherwise the next fan will die the same way. Likely either the head or valve cover gaskets. | ||

The amount of oil was so small, I was assuming it was from overfill of the oil change I just did coming up through the air box or the half pulled out pcv valve I pushed back in a few days ago. Oil was, BTW, very clean, if that makes a difference. |
