Buying bare factory cylinder head kits with seat and valve guide installed (such as 16666-04, 16667-04) and doing the other assembly myself without special tools is doable? Or only specialty shop with tools can do it? Anyone tried this? |

You mean lapping the valves seats and placing valves and springs!? You could make a tool yourself for holding the valve and spring with seat in place. |

Looking into FSM raised these questions; 1) Do valve seats come cut precise so that just light lapping would be enough? 2) Valve guide bore comes reamed and honed and ready to go? Or do I need to do it for my choice of valve myself? Probably I can place valve and spring myself but not sure about the above things... If you call Pam at Cycle Rama, she might be able to arrange things so they get the heads, check them out and set them up perfectly with some light porting, and then ship them to you for not that much extra $$ (you save a couple of shipping $ dings). |

I will have to resort to specialty shop (not right now) if I find out it is not for do-it-youselfers. But I am curious if it is doable. |

Wouldn't buy bare factory heads. For the same price you can get some ported heads, more or less prepared for bolt on installation. |

The buell and h-d mechanical parts are not that smooth out of the box. And it could be doable for a diy'r ,but do you have the measuring tools and enough Knowledge!? So what reepicheep suggested that it's probably a better option to have your parts checked by someone that does this things more often. Also better for piece of mind that it's done the right way in one set. Maybe you can find someone that can show how it works and what's all involved! |

Still curious if valve seats come cut and valve guide reamed/honed for factory valve. |

Normally all You have to do is install OEM parts (valves, springs, etc). Seats are cut and guides are sized. Lapping is not necessary. |

Sounds good to me. Thanks. |
