Hey guys I'm new to the forum and let me this is great. I'm also new to the buell. I need help with replacing the tea my oil. I have it drained and can't find where to replace the new oil. Please help me. Can anyone give me in detail ?? Thanks guys! |

Welcome! Probably the best thing you can do is get a service manual for your bike. You didn't mention the model but you might check with Al at American Sport Bike to see if he has any for your model. I think a parts manual is very helpful also. |

Thank you, 2001 cyclone. I don't have the money to buy a manual yet. I'm saving money for Christmas. If anyone has good advice or maybe pictures so I can fill the tranny work be greatly appreciated. I've had three Harley's and the lube service was very easy on those. Having a hard time with this tho. Thanks!! |

Pretty easy. Take the drain bolt out of the bottom of the transmission case, drain the fluid, put the bolt back in. Then take the derby cover (bigger 4 screw cover on the primary cover) and pour a quart of HD Formula+ in with the bike level, until the fluid just starts to touch the ribbed bottom of the clutch basket. Overfilling won't be any kind of disaster, and in fact may actually help save the poorly designed 5th gear drive assembly (it gets poor lubrication over there), but it will make it shift a little worse. The inside of the derby cover may look like chocolate milk. That's condensation mixed with transmission oil. Not great, but pretty normal. |

Oh, and don't confuse the primary tensioner with the transmission drain bolt. And getting the bolt out without removing the stock exhaust is possible, but getting it back in can be pretty annoying. But it can be done. Foil can keep the oil off the exhaust in theory, but it often gets messy. |

I'm away from home now but let me know if you have problems and I can scan that section from the manual and email it to you. I have a 2001 Cyclone and I'd say it's my favorite Buell. The S1 is a lot of fun but for a long distance ride, the Cyclone is better. |

Well I drained it with success and filled it with a quart and about a cup of oil. When I drained the oil I got about two quarts out of it. I noticed when riding the bike before I started tearing it apart the transmission felt sloppy. I don't know if the guy who owned it before me didn't change the tranny fluid for a long time or what. Anyways, I have a few more months before the snow melts so I'm going through the whole bike. I'm going to faborcate a new muffler, I really want that rumble from the motor. I'm also in the works of rebuilding the carb and doing a few other things before its road ready. Thanks again for the help. |

It's a tuber, so the transmission will always feel like it was designed in the 60's. That's the bad news. The good news is that it has an incredibly durable clutch, and because it's a tuber, you could rebuild it over a couple evenings if something goes wrong (a cartridge transmission you don't have to split the cases to remove). |
