THis is somewhat of a pre-emptive question. I have the V&H muffler and recently had to find a replacement kit since the metal baffle had started to self destruct and my spare was in worse shape. I was able to order THE last replacement part from Motorcycle Superstore, but it was about 4" too long. I was able to cut it and tack on the metal adapter to the end of it and put everything back together. Knowing that it will again need replacement, I would like to start considering options for when the day comes that it needs to be replaced. Any suggestions for a new/used exhaust for my 2000 S3T? |

I think you can still order cores directly from V&H. I did a few years back. Give them a call, it may not be on their web page. |

Well, to update, V&H does not sell the cores anymore and have not for a couple of years. I am now looking for another option. I need to resolve this in the next couple of months since the baffle has broken loose inside and is now rattling around making a horrible noise. I know if I open it up, it will be toast and I will not be riding. I am out of work right now, so I am not riding everyday, otherwise my need would be immediate. Any suggestions for a new muffler? |

I don't know ,but isn't it possible to make a new baffle from a piece of pipe with the correct diameter. It's a lot of holes to drill ,but if you use a punche to guide the drill bit to start and take your time it's doable. This way i made some nice stainless mufflers for my jeep truck! |

Perforated exhaust piping is easy to get if you know the size. |

"Perforated exhaust piping is easy to get if you know the size." Hmm, I might have a piece of the old baffle to measure. I even have a good friend who welds SS. Thanks guys! |

Well I did find a replacement, but they cannot ship to California due to CARB restrictions. What a joke... The guy told me they got fined $1000 every time they shipped here. Guess they would rather have me run no baffle... lol! https://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/30962/i/vanc e---hines-ss2-r-replacement-baffle Same part I have ordered before too. For that 70- bucks you better of with a piece of stainless pipe and drill the holes with a drill press yourself! |

It's not just the perforated pipe. There are 2 SS pieces welded to the ends that fit into the ends of the inside of the muffler. I could buy the perforated pipe in the right size for $20-$25 bucks (don't have a drill press), then pay someone to cut and weld the ends on, then I could wrap it. Or I could buy one that is already done for $70. In this case I would have to have it shipped to another state and then shipped to me... Another $10 bucks. Might be worth it since I haven't even factored in my time. Just a PITA! |

I was thinking that you gonna re-use the two end plates ,but if the repack kit is good enough for a couple years then that is a good solution to. There are people enough here that can help with postage ,only have to find the right one. |
