How much do you expect to see on the chip magnet of the primary oil. I just did the first change on my XB12 so I'm not sure whats normal.
Engine oil magnet had much less. Bike has 44000km. Last service at 30. |

That's more and bigger debris than I have ever seen on 3 Buells (including one with a broken primary tensioner). Any issues with the transmission or charging system? |

Clunk clunk clunk through the gears but I expect thats normal. I've had no false neutrals and charging is spot on. I'll run a volt meter next time I ride for the hell of it but no issues so far... |

Sounds like normal clunking. Keep an eye on it when you change the primary fluid... it will either get worse or it won't. |

The FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL is wrong on the PRIMARY CHAIN adjustment and should be adjusted to 3/4 inch on the chain tight spot ... PRIMARY ADJUSTMENT Class 101, just PM me for a copy ... Change the PRIMARY CHAIN LUBRICANT every 5K miles ... |

Definitely going to pay more attention to it from now on. 5000k it is. Hopefully there aren't too many chunks of metal are in there grinding away. Probably a dumb question and as soon as I post I'll figure it out but how do you turn the engine over to find the tight spot? Do you just turn the key with the ignition switch off? |

I just use the starter with the bike in neutral to bump it and measure in a few places. Just hit the starter lever enough to move the crank, not enough to start it. |

And please ...... No fingers, tools or toes near that chain when you bump the starter. |
