I just acquired a 2007 m2 blast from a training center here in Florida. Guy says bike has 1400 miles and has not been run in a year or year and a half. I bought a shop manual and cleaned carb, bought a new battery, checked my connections and added all new fuses. Nothing no lights, no juice no nothing. The Battery is brand new with a full charge. I read to check the frame ground, nice and tight. So I take it to a certified hd mechanic as I am puzzled. He calls tonight and says got lights working but no idea why it wont turn over and no spark. I thought maybe something wrong with the whole harness he says no idea but very doubtful. Any ideas why this would freeze out like this? |

You should see if you can trade it in on a nice S2 Lightning. |

If you have the service manual and a multimeter, save a bunch of money and check some things yourself. Basically, electricity comes out of the battery and goes to the ignition switch. With the switch on, power goes to the ignition circuit and the accessory circuit. Don't forget that the stop/run switch needs to be working properly for power to get to the ignition bits of the wiring harness. One tip: Get a clear plastic sheet from Staples or Office Depot, put that over the wiring diagram, and trace the specific circuit you are looking at with a grease pencil. That way you can avoid wrong turns as you look at the circuit, and you can erase the sheet and start again as you move on. Hope this helps, Dave |

Strong lights and no power to motor sounds like the kill switch. |

Thank guys I appreciate your help. I'm new to the buell world and safety switches on kick stands and the like. But I got a feeling I know what my weekend has in store for me. |

Yeah, bypass that kick stand switch, too. Is it an M2 or a Blast? How many cylinders does it have? (Message edited by harleyelf on March 14, 2014) |

It's a single cylinder, blast not an M2. |

Also I was looking for information on by passing the kick stand switch, checking the most recent forums has not provided anything I can use. Thanks. |

The side stand switch should only affect the ignition not the starter. To bypass jumper the 2 wires on the Harness that the kickstand switch plugs into. If it turns over but does not fire then maybe the kickstand switch. Soooo does it turn over at all. Also check the fuses. |

Nope no turn over at all, just lights up. I ordered a starter switch/ right side control assembly, a neutral position switch and a Relay, Starter and Ignition. I'm hoping that something here will get me in the wind on this bike. As far as starting the bike, Its requires kick stand up, ignition on, red switch on clutch in and Yellow start button? I read somewhere the the front brake has to be engaged, too. It will just idle with the stand down after start? |

He calls tonight and says got lights working but no idea why it wont turn over and no spark. This sounded weird. If he could not get it to turn over how did he know there was no spark? Also did he try to jumper the starter to see if the starter did work? I would get it (the problem) found first because it sounds like your just throwing money at the problem. The stuff your buying would be a couple hundred alone. Here in WI I won't be riding for another month because of the salt and sand. |

Matt: You in Palm Bay? That's 180 miles S. of me.... First up: Post your questions in the THUMPer Forum on this site. There are a lot of Blast "experts" there who may not look at this section. Secondly: Have you checked your relays? If the battery is powering the lights, electricity must be going somewhere. Thirdly: The Blast comes with a Bank Angle Sensor that cuts the engine in the event of a tip over. If this is not set properly it may be stopping current reaching the starter. If push comes to shove, I'm prepared to ride down & look at it sometime. (I used to own a Blast) but the best bet for you is to post in the THUMPer section. There are some really knowledgeable Blast guys on there. Good luck (& stop throwing money at the problem until you KNOW what it is! ) Chris C |

I'm with BBert on this one. Throw enough parts at it, and the problem MAY get fixed. Pretty expensive, though. The person you chose may be certified; doesn't mean he/she is any good at trouble shooting or diagnosing. Sit down with the service manual (good on ya for getting one!) and start through the elec system. Are all the fuses in and good? If you have relays, same thing. If you have diodes in the fuse box, are they good and oriented properly? A long way of saying it would unfortunate to buy a new starter, ect and find out that the problem was a relay, or loose ground. And don't let the wiring diagram scare you. Look at one system/wire at a time. Don't try to read the whole thing at once. Hope this helps, Dave |

Thanks again guys, I know throwing money at it might not be the best solution, but I just want to get it running again. I really have nothing in it yet, and I found a great Buell site that has very reasonable prices, so if I think it might help, I just kind of pop. I ll get this going it's just frustrating and this forum has offered tons of information. Thanks to everyone. I'll update this later this week and let you know how this project is going. |

The Bank Angle Sensor just affects the ignition thru the ECM and not the starter circuit. |

Good news, the little blastard made it, He's alive and almost well. The bad news is the only thing on the speedometer that works in the turn indicators. no speed, no bright light or neutral lights. Anyone got a spare speedo? |

Your wires are much more likely to have failed than the speedometer itself. Reach around the steering neck and wiggle the harness; see if the instruments flicker on and off. |

Crap it may just be a couple bulbs or loose/dirty connections or a combination there of. That's what mine was. All I did was remove and reinstall. Check those out first, I am sure it is not the darn speedo. You must be made of money like those bike commercials. Make sure you test it before you put it all back together. Good luck there good buddy. |

Well, as it turns out all of the diodes and starter relay were completely corroded to the point that every metal surface within were completely shot. So a complete scrub out of the contact points and new diodes and starter relay installed. A lot of sand in the right control had to be scraped and the contact points on the starter switch had to be cleaned up. I have it going, but there's a lot of work to do. Only thing I can't figure out is the speedo is not working but the turn indicator is, left control works the signals, but no horn and no flash to pass. It's running, so hey, I'm Happy and very appreciative for all the help from above. |

P.S. I tried the Speedo suggestion from Harleyelf and no go for wiggling wires and then I removed and cleaned the connectors to the harness. Zip, Nada. Still working on checking all the power issues from the harness. |

Hey all the corrosion is maybe from the salt air?????????????????????? If so clean all the contacts, PERIOD. I see it is FL. |

Copper I'm glad you figured it all out, especially with all the different things. I know I have had some issues in the past and a couple took a month or 2 to figure out. I have to wait another week or 2 to ride here. To much salt and sand on the roads for me yet. I have to admit it sure helps to have someone else around to bounce ideas off at times. I have done my share of asking here also. |
