Hi all, I'm looking to get the uly back on the road after a broken exhaust stud exercise. I have two questions :

Should I replace the other three studs that may have been overstressed by the lack of a fourth, or not open that can o' worms?

How best to install the new stud. Loctite? Double nut? What torque?

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.

After reading about all the trouble with broken exhaust studs I went and replaced mine while I had the pipes off doing the gear on the oil pump. I bought a set of ARP carb studs to replace the originals. I had one in front that I had to double nut to remove but all others came out by finger (bike had around 10,560 mi). I double nutted the arp's and just snugged them up. I rechecked them after 500mi, still tight. Will recheck after another 500 and so on.

On an XB, the stud shouldn't be breaking unless something else is wrong. Like loosing the support bolt at the front where the exhaust can front bracket bolts to the cases. Or maybe a broken exhaust strap.

Nobody has had trouble with using better studs, so it doesn't hurt to do so, and if they haven't broken yet and you have the exhaust off anyway they probably swap out easy enough. But it shouldn't be necessary either.

Recently picked up a 2008 XB12ss. It has a dented header, stock exhaust. My question is, what other headers are interchangeable? Lots of Firebolt headers on ebay. Thanks for any wisdom.
