New to Buells here. I recently acquired an 03 XB9R. When I got the bike, I had to replace the fuel pump, and work out a few minor electrical bugs. After removing the front fairing to sort out a headlight issue, I noticed the ECM was stamped "FOR RACE USE ONLY" in big white block letters. Cool... Save me from having to purchase one myself. Where it got interesting was when I downloaded ECMspy. I can only get the program to connect to the bike when using the "stock ecm" selection. Anyone else have this problem? I am unaware of the bikes history, but it DOES run like a raped ape. I know it also has the Jardine RT-1 exhaust, and I put in Iridium plugs and 10mm wires when I flushed all the fluids after getting it running again. As far as I know, the rest is bone stock. I am guessing that it is in fact a race ecm due to the power this thing has, but I really have no basis to go off of other than the fact that this thing has way more power than most of the other 1000cc's that I have ridden. Is there any way to know for sure what ECM it has? Anyone else had this problem? |

Yes what you report is normal, there is a different type of firmware used on the real (and expensive) programmable racing ECM, not the P&A Race ECM that was obtainable over the counter at the dealership. Your Race ECM is based off the stock ECM, so that is why it only works on the stock setting. |
