Anyone know the difference in the Pirelli Angel tires for the Buell? The 180 55 R17E is said to be the oem repacement for the xb12xt... But, what is the difference in the tire construction from the regular 180 55 r17? Is there some magical technology that makes the e series cost more and work better on the Buell xt or is the extra cost just a custom tread patter that spells out how cool I am riding down the road? |

I know the Metzler has 2 different tires in the same size for the Uly and one is advertised as "stronger" for loaded down adventure bikes (read: R1200GS) . I assume the "E" on the difference you mention above is a similar differentiation, but I have not read that specifically for the Pirelli's. |

Pirelli's "E" load rating means the tire supports a heavier load, which is for heavier bikes being ridden two up with luggage. The only difference you will see with an E tire is that it is harder to install, and it will cost more to purchase. |

Cool, I appreciate the info. I just didn't want to ride down the road with a tread footprint saying sucker. The tire is going on a Buell xb12r. My fat ass probably needs the extra load bearing tire but I will probably go the cheaper route. What I've read this Pirelli Angel seems to hold up well. Some guys on big boy bikes (R1s and Busas) seem to be claiming 7000 and 10000 miles. I am currently running a pilot road ct2 in the rear and a pirelli corsa in the front. The combo works well but I thought I might get more wear out of the Angel. The older I get the more I realize how little I need a tire that is sooo sticky. Im not breaking loose at all now so I could squeeze more mileage out of a harder tire. Besides my father in law (read the ass) is getting 12 and 14 out of his BMW rear. Its just grating my nerves. . Thanks again. |

Yep 10k is a good estimate on life for an Angel, I got about that on a set on my 1125R. It is a fantastic street tire, it grips great regardless of the weather or how hard you ride. It doesn't need much to warm it up, and as long as you are not doing a track day or ride off road you will not have a single issue. |

I know this is an old post, and you probably already have new tires on your bike, but I thought I should follow up on my post two years and thousands of miles later (see my original post): http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/652163.html?1316385972 I concur with Froggy. I like the predictable handling. By that I mean they are not the stickiest tire I've tried, turn in is smooth, and grip is good enough to scrub pegs at will when up to temp. But when they're cold, or wet, cornering slip is a gradual thing you can feel coming. They have given me warning when I am about to do something stupid, and bring me back to the reality that I am definitely not Geoff May. If you ride relaxed, they are a great tire. If your a kneeslider, perhaps the Demons or Diablo corsa are a better choice.}}}} |

It's been a year on my Pirelli Angel rear tire. I am thoroughly enjoying it. It seems to stick very well. Very predictable riding sensibly or not. Not quite all the way to the edge of the chicken strip. I'm short about an eighth of an inch. But, the tire sticks well. Last week a buddy and I went from Raleigh NC to Bristol TN via 421. The tire never missed a beat on the Snake or the hours of flat boring interstate getting there. I'll be buying more of these. As I get closer to the end of the tire's existence I'll give another update. But, with the kids the wife and the business that may be a bit. I put about 2k on this year and the tread still has some of the initial pattern left on the sides. |

I have demons on my tubster and absolutely love them getting 8-11 k on the back and 15k on the front with more to go but like the feel on new tire when it gets that close to worn out... Just my 2 cents worth :-) |
