So I've got my primary cover off to replace my clutch and figured I'd replace the starter gasket that's been leaky for probably close to ten years now.

I'd like to pull the starter out of the way to clean up the top of the primary case, underneath the starter. Do I need to remove the headers? It's pretty snug, I wonder if it's just a question of alignment of if there's just not room.

Stator nut is big, reverse thread, right?

Also, should I pull the clutch pack from the bike to break it down, or just do it with the assy still in the primary? I've tried reading through it in the manual but here are so many damn warnings about how to not kill myself working on the thing it's hard to find the meat of what exactly I'm doing.

I had to remove the header on my S3T to get the starter out. No room with them on.

Thank you Jim, I think I've got some exhaust gaskets round here somewhere, not sure if they are stock or the SE thin ones though.

I'm gonna pull the clutch and stator off so I can check the shift drum pins and check out the shift pawl adj whilst I'm in there. Might as well I guess.

Yup, gotta pull the headers.
The stator nut is right hand normal threads, the clutch hub is left handers.
