Hello all.

Today I took my XB9 for a dyno test, here are the results.

The AFR is completely out of range, and the injectors are at the maximum from 3400 on.

Regards.

After some mods, here are the results.

Table:

Data

Got rid of that dip between 5k and 6.5k, plus gained 2HP.

The AFR is not valid for this plot, since it was measured with the probe inside the megaphone. We ran with the probe in the rear header and it was always between 14 and 12, although a little bumpy.

Regards

Very nice improvement! How did you achieve it?

Installed 60lb injectors and remapped. Some cells would be out of range for stock injectors, and others were past 90% duty cycle.

Now, the highest value in the table is 140 (would be 280 with stock injectors).

Besides, having a wideband really does help. Next comes mapping front cyl, have to weld a bung in the front header.

Here are the injectors:

What all was done to the bike? Exhaust only or some engine work?

94 hp from a xb9 is pretty good.

Hey Dean.

Installed 60 lb/ft injectors, plus complete remapping done by myself.

No engine work, just Force full system, open airbox plus catch can. Prety standard mods.

Mapping was done based on data from an Innovate MTX-L wideband sensor.

I guess I could get some more if I mapped front cylinder too.

Regards.

Marcos, are you still working towards a turbo setup? I'm confused about your injector choice. Stock XB injectors flow plenty of fuel for over 110hp at the rear wheel. 60lb/hr injectors are way overkill if 90hp is where you plan to stay.

Hello Eric.

The project is on standby, I would like to install a stronger crank and lower compression so I am saving for it. I think 12 pistons would be a safe choice for a turbo XB9. I already have an oil pump, a bigger oil cooler and RAM air + oil cooler duct. I do not want to have temperature problems, here in Spain summertime can be extremely hot.

As for the 60 lbs injectors, indeed they are too large for this bike, BUT the dyno showed that stock injectors were not enough between 4500 and 5500 RPM@WOT.

Stock injectors were maxed out in the first test between 4500 and 5500, and it showed a dip after max torque, instead of a descending plateau. So i decided to try the 60 lbs injectors that I had laying around waiting for the turbo setup and it came out to improve as you can see in the second plot. With these injectors I have 140 in the cells that where maxed out at WOT with stock injectors, and it is running good there. Stock would be out of bounds.

I wounder what could be the cause of this.

May be stock injectors were dirty? Engine ran smoothly with them except when WOT at that RPM, where it seemed to hesitate a lot.

I wonder if the exhaust design could contribute to this effect, since it has a reverse megaphone. This makes the engine behave sort of a 2 stroke, kicking into powerband at 3500. This effect is VERY noticeable, and you can feel how torque increases from there up to 5K.

Other thing to test is the fuel regulator pressure, may be it is low? I have not tested it so I cannot say about this.

To summarize, I know these injectors seem to be too big for this engine. However, dyno testing has shown that with my current configuration, installing them with scaling and adjusting map places some improvement in mid range without hindering driveability. It runs smooth at low loads.

Yesterday a fellow that has a 12 went for a ride and loved it. He said "powerful and smooth, however lacking low end".

Anyway, turbo in my mind. That is my ultimate goal. 130-150 HP

Regards
