The original XB Stator has a P/N ending in 02Y the latest P/N is 02YA which is a 2007 revision. The 02Y is no longer available unless a dealer still has one and the new 02YA does not fit on an 03. It seems that there is a new plastic wire guard held in place by a riviet. The original configuration used epoxy to secure the winding wires where they attached to the stator. The problem is that this new P/N with it's plastic and riviet set too high and contact the bolt heads on the rotor. I will post some pictures after I send them to Al at American Sport Bike. Has anyone else ever had an issue like this? Al and I tried two different Stators and even tried to fit it on an XB12 we have in the shop, but it still hits |

Yea post pics, it might be a mis-boxed part meant for another model. About a year ago I ordered a Blast belt, it was a Sportster belt in a box labeled with the Blast part number. |

I ran into the same problem and thought I had over torqued the rotor. I then took it to my local dealer (Lancaster H-D) to have it checked and between them and H-D it was decided the solution was to just grind/ machine the heads of the bolts down. Mine was barely touching so it didn't take much to clearance them. |

Robert, that's what I did, took a little off the bolt heads as well as the plastic and rivet. The customer made 25 miles before it quit charging. Sure enough the bolts had hit the rivet causing it to fail and damage the stator. Gurrrr But looks like the original 29971-02Y will work, I used some clay to measure the clearance and it looks OK, but will know for sure tomorrow. Just did not feel that I was the only one to have seen this. Terry - www.jtsperformance.com |
