I read the owner manual and recommended choice of fuel is 91 octane but it did not say NOT to use anything less than 91. When I owned Can-Am Spyder, was instructed NOT to use anything higher than 87 octane and for Harley- not to use anything less than 91. None was said in Ulysses owner manual??

What is default compression ratio in Ulysses?

I assume that if you were to ride Ulysses in middle of remote area where premium fuel is not available for miles and miles (600 miles to 1,000 miles) and you have no choice but to use poor octane fuel, Ulysses will be OK thanks to fan cooling system to help keep engine cool during the detonation period?

BMW bikes use premium but if have to, can put regular fuel and the computer system will adjust to work with regular.

Owner manual also advised NOT to use Octane Booster, which is OK in Harley so I assume regular fuel for certain amount of time would be OK on Ulysses??

Please advice!

The bike is designed to run on 91. If you put in 87 you may get detonation. One of my XBs will do it on 87, other won't. I really don't recommend you use 87 unless you have no other choice.

Octane boosters often contain chemicals that can damage your O2 sensor, hence why they aren't recommend. I would run 87 straight rather than use a booster that claims to be sensor safe.

The bike does not have a knock sensor, it can't adjust the timing to compensate for lower octane fuel.

Interesting... so if you are going to set off on a trip to parts unknown, you might want to tweak the timing to be a little less aggressive.

My M2 and 9sx would ping, my Uly doesn't (or I can't hear it).

My Ulysses does 89 just fine, But even my sportster doesn't like 87.

Any thoughts on the NON-ETHANOL gas?
Pretty sure it's 87 octane.
I had an '89 WSP Mustang for a few months until I had to sell it..
I swear the thing ran better after a month of nothing but ethanol free gas.
It's all I've been running in the XB12Ss.
