So I bought an used 2006 Buell Blast from someone with only 3300 miles on it. He said the exhaust was cracked(easy fix). But when I went to look at it it was leaking oil. He didnt tell me this til i was there. he said someone checked it out already and told him it is the head gasket. so the price was still very good. i took the bike home. after doing much research online on these bikes it seems my bike has the "good" rocker box gasket. But i also seem to read these still go bad and can be confused with the head gasket. i have dissasembled the bike and cleaned up very well a few times as to pinpoint the leak. after the first time i noticed the hose from the pcv valve was off. so i reconnected that. im sure that probably helped solve a little bit of the oil leak but the actual top of the motor didnt have much oil on it anyways. its all down the right side of the motor where you can see the oil actually dripping and landing on muffler. i literally just got done cleaning it good and riding around and these pics show right where it starts leaking. any ideas?+++ jpeg +++ 662621 +++ the red is where the oil leaks from.. that little corner. but none from up top on what i would call the actual engine cover. so only leaking out of the black motor not the chrome/metal top cover. unless its from inside behind that black piece in last pic with the buell logo on it? thanks for the help!! +++
theres also a few other questions and concerns i have with the bike but this is my main one for now. as i bought the bike to commute to and from work to save gas and i would like to do so. safely and asap. lol |

Curious that the leak is confined to the area around the exhaust pushrod tube. There may be no need for shop intervention. Got a service manual? |

I just bought a pdf version of the 06 manual yes. Is the black part with logo on it? sorry im very new to motorcycles. the exhaust itself is cracked right at the meeting to the muffler in the front as well. thanks for any help. it looks as though the oil is coming out from behind that part in the top right corner of it. or the top left corner of my red box. behind it.

Look at a regular Harley or tuber Buell. See the tubes on the right side of the engine? Four of them? These hold the pushrods that transfer the motion of your cams below the cylinder to the valves above it. The tubes leak sometimes. You will have to change a few other gaskets to make it right, but if it runs well, don't touch the head gasket! Rocker cover gasket and push rod tube seals will take you an afternoon and maybe thirty bucks in parts. And yes, it's the black piece with the Pegasus logo. Oil drains down through it from the valve head and the rods inside it go up and down a lot and have oil inside them. If you can fix a bicycle tire you can change these gaskets. I have the same issues and bought the bike for the same reason. Mine is a 2007 that I bought new. So far I have had the exhaust replaced 4x under warranty and two aftermarket systems go out. Also had the entire top end of the engine replaced including the head under warranty as well as the front motor mount when it ripped apart. Just blew out my latest exhaust system today. To say that I feel a little ripped off is an understatement. Great mileage when it is running though. I have been running the Vance and Hines exhaust. Sounds great, but the packing in it blows out at about 500 miles or so; less on the freeway. Anyone have any suggestions other than a bigger bike? I ride about 1100 miles per week when it runs. |

This thread was from a while ago, but just out of curiosity, did you adjust/lower the engine before putting the tank back on on that first pic you posted? The distance of the front isolator frame/mount from the engine looks too far away. The second to last pic on this thread confirms that the lower tie rod (perilously close to the exhaust) is at an angle. Did you have a shop take a look at this, or repair it yourself? |
